A while back, someone on Twitter had asked: "If your manager asked you to go into the server room and cut the cables, what would you do?" I thought for a moment, and realized this is not a simple question with a simple answer. What would I do? Well, firstly, it will depend on the context. Is it completely out of the blue? Is it totally absurd and out of the context? Has something been happening? What is the workplace like? How is my relationship to my manager? Do I trust his judgement and decisions, generally? Do I have the time and the authority to challenge this order and ask why? And secondly, which cables? Power cords or networks'? why cut the cables? Why not just unplug them? And, by the way, where is the cable-cutter?
