Traditional Crafts Thrive at Tire Market
In Izmir’s historic Tire district, traditional crafts on the verge of disappearing continue to survive. Every Tuesday, Turkiye’s largest open-air market draws visitors to colorful stalls and nearby workshops where artisans practice rope-making, clog-making, saddle-making, and felt-making. These age-old crafts are preserved in small workshops, keeping centuries-old skills and knowledge alive. As the market, these craftsmen not only create handmade goods but also safeguard Anatolia’s rich heritage, passing down traditional knowledge to future generations.

Moldova’s Hobbit Village Preserving Heritage
In the remote village of Rogojeni, Moldova, half-buried “bordei” houses built to withstand harsh winters and hot summers give the settlement a magical, hobbit-like charm. These traditional dugout homes, along with old roads, fences, and untouched architecture, preserve the village’s historic character and centuries-old way of life. Once home to around 200 residents, Rogojeni now has just 30 inhabitants, yet its small, earth-covered dwellings continue to captivate travellers seeking unique scenery and cultural heritage.
