Bad Gifts Museum Opens Its Doors in Toronto
The Museum of Bad Gifts opened in Toronto as a warm and playful exhibition that found joy in unwanted presents. Local artists and community members shared gifts they once found awkward or disappointing. Each object gained new meaning through simple display, gentle humour, and personal stories. Some gifts stayed unchanged, while others were turned into small works of art. Visitors moved through the gallery with smiles, finding familiar moments in unexpected items. Stories behind the gifts showed how meaning often depends on context, not appearance.

Ancient Ball-Kicking Game in the Western City of Kyoto
People clad in ancient Japanese court outfits have performed a time-honored ball-kicking game to mark the New Year at a shrine in the western city of Kyoto. The custom called kemari is said to have been played by noblemen in the Heian Period that lasted from the late 8th to the 12th century. Kemari players use a white deerskin ball measuring about 20 centimeters in diameter. A local group of people, working to preserve kemari, plays the game at Shimogamo Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site, on January 4 every year to pray for peace and happiness.
