Centuries-old Procession in Nara
A procession of about 1,000 people dressed in traditional Japanese attire took place in the ancient capital of Nara, western Japan. The parade is the highlight of the annual Kasuga Wakamiya Onmatsuri, a tradition that dates back to the 12th century. The event held at Wakamiya Shrine, an auxiliary shrine within Kasugataisha Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, prays for a bountiful harvest and peace across the country. Woven Stories of Mountains and Forests
K'Ho women in Lam Dong Province have long been preserving the traditional craft of brocade textiles as the very soul of their culture. Each motif tells a story of plants and animals. K’Ho brocade shares similar colours with the textiles of other ethnic groups in the Central Highlands. The difference lies in patterns inspired by forest life, which has sheltered and nurtured generations of the K’Ho people. Although the K’Ho people now have more clothing choices, both older adults and the young still hold a special affection for brocade attire.

Capybara Hot Spring Bath
Visitors to an animal park in western Japan have enjoyed the sight of its capybara getting some respite from the winter cold by soaking in a warm bath filled with water from a hot spring. Keepers began filling the capybara’s open-air bath with hot water from the Yuda Onsen hot-spring resort and adding “yuzu” citrus fruit. It is traditional in Japan to take a dip in a hot bath with the fruit floating in it on the winter solstice. Visitors were delighted to see the capybara apparently enjoying soaking in the bath, happy and relaxed as it warmed itself up.

A Torchlit Welcome to the New Year
Led by Vikings and the steady beat of a pipe band, a river of flame moves through Edinburgh’s Old Town as 15,000 people take part in the torchlight procession. The march opens the city’s Hogmanay celebrations, lighting the winter night and welcoming the New Year. The tradition began more than 30 years ago, inspired by Shetland’s Up HellyAa festival. Since then, Vikings from Shetland have returned each year, keeping alive rituals rooted in ancient, pagan customs. Over four days, around 100,000 people gather in Edinburgh to celebrate Hogmanay. Visitors arrive from more than 70 countries,
