Dickens Festival Brings Christmas Cheer to Dutch Town
On a cold winter weekend, the narrow cobbled streets of the Dutch town of Deventer turn back in time. Carol singers fill the air with music, while men, women and children dressed in long coats, bonnets and top hats walk past old brick houses, bringing the world of Charles Dickens to life. This is the Dickens Festijn, a two-day festival held every year in Deventer. It began in December 1991, started by local shop owner Emmy Strik.

Once-a-decade Hong Kong Taoist Jiao Festival
Residents of Kam Tin decked out their northern corner of the city with towering flower boards and a vast bamboo stage for the Taoist Jiao festival which dates back over 300 years. The five-storey-tall, 42,000-square-foot stage won a Guinness World Record this month for being the biggest temporary bamboo structure. The ritual was allegedly begun by the Tang clan in 1685 to honour local officials who helped them reclaim their coastal homes after government evictions.

Ngo boat racing is regarded as the “king of sports” in traditional festivals of the Southern Khmer community. After more than a decade-long hiatus, the Ngo boat race in Cà Mau of Viet Nam has returned as a major cultural celebration, drawing thousands of locals and visitors.
