Autumn Colors at Tokyo’s Imperial Palace
The general public can now enjoy autumn foliage
inside the grounds of Tokyo’s Imperial Palace.
The 600-meter-long Inui-dori, a street that runs
through the palace grounds, is open to the public
for nine days through December 7. The avenue is lined
with about 70 maple trees of eight different varieties.
The Imperial Household Agency says
after a long spell of unseasonably warm weather,
maple leaves started to change color around mid-November.
Families and foreign tourists were seen strolling
along the road while taking photos.

Models glide on pirogues in Dakar’s ocean-themed Fashion Week
With the theme “the ocean,
the magic of the sea and fashion combined”,
the traditional runway is replaced
by pirogues ferrying models between Dakar and the island of Ngor
at Dakar fashion week. Off the coast of Senegal’s capital,
models were paraded in front of an audience on artisanal fishing boats,
clinging onto ropes to keep them
from falling over in the choppy waves.
The show marked the 23rd edition of the festival created
by designer Adama Paris, who launched it in 2002
to spotlight African fashion.

A Buddhist temple south of Tokyo has enthralled visitors
with a colorful display of lights to celebrate its 700-year history.
Yugyoji Temple in the city of Fujisawa,
Kanagawa Prefecture, was built in 1325.
It teamed up with a local chamber of commerce
to organize the illumination event. When a temple bell tolled,
LED lights came on, casting decorative patterns
onto the main hall and along the pathway to it.
A ginkgo tree, towering more than 20 meters high, was also lit up,
making its yellow leaves glow gold.

Ancient Krampus Tradition Returns to Munich Streets at Christmas
Each winter, Krampus figures from Central Alpine folklore march through Munich’s streets during a traditional Christmas parade. Once believed to punish misbehaving children with birch rods, these horned and masked characters are now a dramatic but harmless part of the festive season.The tradition dates back nearly 500 years to Alpine villages, where Saint Nicholas rewarded good children while Krampus frightened the naughty ones.
