Colombian Navy unveils first treasures from 300-Year-Old Shipwreck

The Colombian Navy revealed the first objects recovered
from the San Jose, a Spanish galleon that
sank off Colombia’s coast 300 years ago.
The items included three gold and bronze coins,
a copper cannon and a porcelain cup.
These are the first artifacts brought to the surface,
ten years after the wreck was discovered in the Caribbean Sea.
Archaeological work also collected ceramic fragments and
sediment from the seafloor. The recovered objects
will allow scientists to study the origin of the materials and
the techniques used to make them.

World Soil Day (5th December 2025)

2025 Theme: "Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities"

Our planet’s survival depends on the precious link with soil. Over 95 percent of our food comes from soils.
However, in the face of climate change and human activity, our soils are being degraded.
Erosion disrupts the natural balance, reducing water infiltration and availability for all forms of life, and decreasing the level of vitamins and nutrients in food.
The World Soil Day highlights how healthy urban soils provide ecosystem services like filtering water, reducing heat, and supporting biodiversity, and how addressing issues like soil sealing is crucial for greener cities.
