Once-a-decade Hong Kong Taoist Jiao Festival

Residents of Kam Tin decked out their northern corner of the city with towering flower boards and a vast bamboo stage for the Taoist Jiao festival which dates back over 300 years. The five-storey-tall, 42,000-square-foot stage won a Guinness World Record this month for being the biggest temporary bamboo structure. Woven Stories of Mountains and Forests

K'Ho women in Lam Dong Province have long been preserving the traditional craft of brocade textiles as the very soul of their culture. Each motif tells a story of plants and animals. K’Ho brocade shares similar colours with the textiles of other ethnic groups in the Central Highlands. The difference lies in patterns inspired by forest life, which has sheltered and nurtured generations of the K’Ho people. Although the K’Ho people now have more clothing choices, both older adults and the young still hold a special affection for brocade attire.

Capybara Hot Spring Bath

Visitors to an animal park in western Japan have enjoyed the sight of its capybara getting some respite from the winter cold by soaking in a warm bath filled with water from a hot spring. Keepers began filling the capybara’s open-air bath with hot water from the Yuda Onsen hot-spring resort and adding “yuzu” citrus fruit. It is traditional in Japan to take a dip in a hot bath with the fruit floating in it on the winter solstice. Visitors were delighted to see the capybara apparently enjoying soaking in the bath, happy and relaxed as it warmed itself up.
