In Marajai Village, deep in Brazil’s Amazonas, Indigenous communities gathered for the third Indigenous Intercultural Games and Dances. Sixteen villages came together, carrying the spirit of their ancestors and the strength of their traditions. In 2007, the WHO Member States addressed the importance of continual investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention, control, and elimination.
Since then, the World Malaria Day has been observing annually to bring an end to malaria and encourage action to reduce suffering and death from the disease.
Malaria is a life-threatening mosquito-borne blood disease. Symptoms include fever, chills, and headaches. People should take antimalarial tablets when traveling to an area where malaria occurs.
