The first consignment of relief material, provided by the Government of India, arrived in Yangon on Saturday. A search and rescue team and medical team was also sent to provide assistance in rescue operation at quake hit areas. The first tranche of 15 tonnes of relief material, include tents, blankets, sleeping bags, food packets, hygiene kits, generators, and essential medicines. These relief items were formally handed over to Chief Minister of Yangon U Soe Thein by Ambassador Abhay Thakur at Yangon International Airport

In order to provide assistance in relief measures at the quake hit areas, a 120-member rescue team from Russia left from Moscow on Saturday. They will assist in the rescue operation at the areas affected by the severe earthquake. A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at 12:51 PM local time on March 28, with its epicenter located about 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay. It was described as a shallow earthquake of 10 kilometers deep and it caused quite substantial damage, followed by small aftershocks. The strong tremor led to the collapse of infrastructure, including roads, bridges, hotels and public residential buildings.

"Las Parrandas" Festivities, A Cultural Competition in Cuba

Residents of the town of Camajuani, in the center of Cuba, show off their allegorical floats with fireworks and music to celebrate one of their most important traditions: "Las Parrandas." Held for the first time in 1820 in the town of Remedios, it is a cultural competition, now celebrated by eighteen communities in Cuba. Sacred Melasti 'Purification' Ritual at Bali Beach

Balinese Hindus flock to beaches on Indonesia's tourist island to participate in the sacred Melasti purification ritual. The ceremony aims to clean the "stains" of the universe ahead of the Nyepi (Day of Silence). Participants perform the Melasti ritual that includes a procession to the beach where they perform ceremonies involving traditional daggers. The Melasti ceremony usually takes place near the coast or river, as the water is believed to have the power to purify and cleanse.

Hot Air Balloons Fill the Sky as Indonesians Celebrate Eid al-Fitr

Dozens of hot air balloons, some sporting traditional Batik designs take to the skies above the Wonosobo area in Indonesia’s central Java province as part of Eid al-Fitr celebrations to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. While the festival dates back to the 1950s, participants have been obliged in recent years to tie down the homemade balloons, with a maximum flying height of 60 metres above the ground in order to prevent the balloons from interfering with commercial flights.
