A celebration for the 60th Anniversary of Yangon University of Economics was held at the Kamayut Campus on the 13th and 14th of December, 2024. The ceremony was attended by Union Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for Education U Nyunt Pe, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Deputy Ministries and many other concerned officials as well as rectors, pro-rectors, faculty members, alumni, students and invited guests.
On the occasion, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a video message.

Notre Dame re-opens after five-year

France celebrated the re-opening of the newly restored Notre Dame cathedral on 7th December
at a special church service that featured a standing ovation for the firefighters
who saved the 12th-century landmark during a 2019 blaze. Spectators lined the banks

Rare Roman coin sells for 1.98 million euros at auction

A rare Roman coin featuring the portrait of Brutus, the assassin of statesman Julius Caesar, sold at a Geneva auction for 1.98 million euros, according to organizer.
The historic item was purchased by a "European collector following intense bidding among eight online bidders" for more than 1.83 million Swiss francs, the dealer said in a statement.
The coin is one of only 17 known artefacts of its kind, the auction house said. It resurfaced in the 1950s, published in a private collector's catalogue and later appeared in a 2006 auction in Zurich where it was sold to another private collector for 360,000 Swiss francs.

Meet 'Baanksy', the sheep that paints

A South African sanctuary for rescued farm animals in the Western Cape is proudly presenting its latest, four-legged artistic marvel – Baanksy the sheep. The ram, who was rescued in 2022 as a newborn lamb, may have been inspired by Pigcasso, the sanctuary’s star pig who passed away earlier this year, says Joanne Lefson the founder of Farm Sanctuary SA. She said Baanksy used to watch Pigcasso paint and he learned how to pick up a brush and to paint by watching Pigcasso.

Ancient royal ritual in Cameroon promotes peace

Thousands of people gather to mark the 548th Nguon Festival in Foumban, the historic capital of the Bamoun Kingdom in Cameroon’s western highlands. Nguon, a tradition of rituals founded in 1384 which seek to promote dialogue, harmony and peace. The rites had not taken place in six years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors, but were recognised in December 2023 by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. The Bamoun territory, which is home to the ethnic group of the same name, is one of the oldest traditional kingdoms in sub-Saharan Africa.
