May’s full Moon, called the Flower Moon, appears on Friday, May 1, reaching peak illumination at 1:23 P.M. (EDT). It will be below the horizon at this time, so for the best view of this Full Moon, step outside on the night of the 30th or the 1st and look for that big, bright, shining lunar disk!
The appearance of flowers in abundance inspired the name for this Moon, a term used by Algonquin and Ojibwe peoples.
Similarly, the Cree names of Budding Moon and Leaf Budding Moon celebrate the awakening of plant life. Egg Laying Moon and Frog Moon are other Cree terms for this period. Moon of the Shedding Ponies is an Oglala term. Planting Moon (Dakota, Lakota) marks the time to plant seeds and start the year’s crops.

These two giant turtles have been fighting each other for more than 120 years.

According to the zoo, one turtle stole the other’s food 120 years ago, and since that day they became enemies.
