A new study of South East Asian public opinion has shown a dramatic drop in confidence in the United States. When asked, “How confident are you of the U.S. as a strategic partner and provider of regional security?” the number of respondents saying they had “no confidence” in the US doubled since 2023, and the number of individuals expressing high levels of confidence halved over the same period.

Likewise, when asked if South-East Asia were forced to align itself to either China or the United States, for the first time the region chose China (50.5%) over the U.S. (49.5%). This represents a huge shift in opinion from 2023, when only 38.9% of respondents chose China as a partner, and more than 61% selected the U.S.

This trend is most pronounced in Muslim-majority nations in the region, such as Malaysia and Indonesia, suggesting that it is Washington’s continued support for genocide in Gaza that is fueling its cratering reputation.

MintPress fills you in on this shocking trend.
