Controlled Methods of blasting:
Controlled blasting is used to reduce over break & minimize fracturing of rock at the boundary of an excavation. The technique involves the following:
1. Line drilling.
2. Pre splitting.
3. Cushion blasting.
4. Smooth blasting.
Places to be fenced in an opencast mine:
1. Top edge of open cast workings.
2. The toe of a rejection or spoil bank near buildings, public roads etc.
3. Storage tanks for water.
4. Top of abandoned quarries.
5. Top of trial pits and trenches.
6. Entrances to the site of an accident.
7. Around an ANFO mixing shed.
8. Entrances to dangerous places like overhangs, undercuts, loose sides and misfires.
9. Temporary fences on public roads within 500 meters of blasting site at the time of blasting.
10. Moving & dangerous parts of machinery and.
11. Moving shafts, couplings and gears of machinery.

5. Contact Dermatitis caused by direct contact with chemicals,
6. Noise Induced Hearing Loss,
7. Pathological manifestations due to Radium or Radioactive substances,
8. Cancer of lung or the stomach or pleura and peritoneum
Noise Limits:

Warning limit: 85 dB(A) (safe for 8-hour exposure).

Danger limit: 90 dB(A) (risk of hearing loss).

Worker should not be allowed to enter: 115 dB(A) or MORE. (Immediate protection Required)

Single bursts requiring Personal protective equipment shall be worn: 130 dB(A) impulse or 120 dB(A) fast.

Maximum limit: 140 dB(A).
Noise Mapping:

Mandatory for workplaces using noisy equipment.

Based on personal noise dosimetry for workers exposed to levels above 85 dB(A).

Used to identify risk areas for noise management.
