The secrets under our feet – What is core drilling and how does it help us?
🏷 Core drilling is a rotary cutting-drilling method used to extract samples for geological study. The drill bit is ring-shaped and rotated at a high speed. As it digs in, it creates a round bar in the middle. This bar is called a core sample and can be used for many purposes.
✅ In exploration drilling, the exploration geologist examines the core sample to see if the rock mass contains any valuable mineralization.
✅ In definition/infill drilling, the mining geologist drills to follow the ore boundaries and examine ore concentration in the mine.
✅ In site investigation rock mechanics, the rock mechanics engineer analyzes the mechanical and hydrological properties of the rock mass to determine whether it’s possible to construct, for instance, a tunnel.
✅ In site investigation soil mechanics, the geotechnical engineer studies the core sample to see whether the soil layers must be reinforced and sealed to withstand the stresses of planned construction.

- آلومینیوم یکی از رایجترین فلزات روی زمین است، اما آلومینیوم خالص به ندرت به صورت طبیعی یافت میشود. مواد معدنی زیادی وجود دارند که آلومینیوم از آنها استخراج میشود: آلونیت، کریولیت، فلدسپات، کروندوم و غیره. این توضیح بر روی فرآوری بوکسیت متمرکز است، زیرا بوکسیت رایجترین ماده خام برای تولید آلومینیوم است.
- پس از استخراج بوکسیت، آن را خرد و آسیاب میکنند و با سود سوزآور ترکیب میکنند تا یک دوغاب تشکیل شود. دوغاب به داخل یک دیگ منتقل میشود تا تحت فشار گرم شود. این باعث میشود که دوغاب آلومینات سدیم تولید کند. سپس مخلوط وارد تانک تهنشینی میشود. ناخالصیهایی که در سود سوزآور حل نمیشوند در پایین تهنشین میشوند و از مایع باقیمانده جدا میشوند.

- آلومینا در یک دیگ کاهش با کریولیت مذاب ذوب میشود تا یک محلول الکترولیت تشکیل دهد. الکترولیت از میلههای کربنی داخل دیگ به بستر کربنی برق را هدایت میکند. در نتیجه، اکسیژن از آلومینیوم جدا میشود و آلومینا به فلز آلومینیوم خالص تبدیل میشود. اکسیژن با میلههای کربنی ترکیب شده و به صورت گاز دیاکسید کربن خارج میشود.
- آلومینیوم مذاب خالص با استفاده از یک بوته برداشته شده و به یک کوره نگهداری منتقل میشود، جایی که بر اساس نیاز قالبریزی و شکلدهی میشود.

What is the magic recipe for good blasting?
Understand and interpret the rock and geology. Understand and take into account the external constraints (e.g. allowable noise, airblast and vibration levels).
Design your blast according to the above, and select the appropriate and available explosives and accessories for the job at hand.
Ensure that there is minimal to no gap between design and execution. I can not stress enough the immense value of good QAQC on drilling, charging and stemming.
