The FTX / Binance situation explained:
FTX only represents like 1/10th of the SBF kingdom's revenue. Most has been made by aggressive trading strategies at Alameda. FTX has been trading on that revenue to prop up and build FTX - by trading Alameda's tether for FTX's FTT. FTT has zero utility though and there is virtually zero demand for it. Whereas with #BNB you have all of the added utility of paying for goods/services with projects built on Binance Chain.
So unlike BNB, FTT is an illiquid asset. And now the #tether coffers at Alameda are bare. FTX and Alameda have now been reduced to flywheel trading #FTT back and forth to create illusion of value, liquidity, and revenue. This was uncovered by a CoinDesk report this week and built on by research by Dirty Bubble Media.
A lot of people don't know this, but CZ actually incubated FTX two years ago. They wouldn't be here today without Binance. Then a year ago, Binance decided to cash out. It turns out that they were paid $2.4B by Sam in Tether and FTT. That should have set off alarm bells for CZ though.
Why would he accept FTT instead of straight tether? Now we know why, Sam desperately needed to keep the value of FTT inflated in order to continue attracting outside investors with inflated valuations (based on FTT holdings in part) to get real cash injected.
Now CZ has seen the evidence that FTT is iust a massive circle jerk/flywheel scheme, so he noped out of it and started to sell his position so that he wasn't left holding bags.
It's now FASCINATING (but not surpising now) that Alameda offered to buy all of Binance's FTT in a closed-door deal for $22. Because if CZ sells it on the open market, the price of FTT will begin to fall.
Will be interesting to see how CZ plays this. On the one hand, another major project failing is bad for the industry.
On the other hand, it has become blatantly apparent that FTX is not a force for good in the industry and we might be better in the long run if bad actors fail fast. Also, it's not a good look for the industry if CZ agrees to skirt the free market and agrees to this back-door deal. Those types of deals are anti-competitive and therefore anti-user.

Scammers and/or compromised friends of yours may send a weaponized Excel file with the name OKX Binance & Huobi VIP fee comparision.xls which contains several tables about fee structures among cryptocurrency exchange companies. The data in the document is likely accurate to increase scammers credibility. This weaponized Excel file initiates the following series of activities:
-A malicious macro in the weaponized Excel file abuses UserForm of VBA to obfuscate the code and retrieve some data.
-The malicious macro drops another Excel sheet embedded in the form and executes it in invisible mode. The said Excel sheet is encoded in base64, and dropped into C:\ProgramData\Microsoft Media\ with the name VSDB688.tmp
-The file VSDB688.tmp downloads a PNG file containing three executables: a legitimate Windows file named logagent.exe, a malicious version of the DLL wsock32.dll, and an XOR encoded backdoor.
-The file logagent.exe is used to sideload the malicious wsock32.dll, which acts as a DLL proxy to the legitimate wsock32.dll. The malicious DLL file is used to load and decrypt the XOR encoded backdoor that lets the threat actor remotely access the infected system.

#Crypto media site TheBlock was secretly funded over the last two years by Sam Bankman-Fried’s Alameda Research.
The Block’s CEO, Michael McCaffrey, resigned after the loans came to light. McCaffrey received three loans for a total of $43 million from 2021 through this year.
The first loan was for $12 million in 2021 to buy out other investors in the media company, at which time McCaffrey took over as CEO.
The second was for $15 million in January to fund day-to-day operations.
The third was for $16 million earlier this year for McCaffrey to purchase personal real estate in the Bahamas.

#Leaks from a Signal messaging group reveal Sam Bankman-Fried was trying to destabilize Tether #USDT and with it the broader crypto market last month in a last ditch attempt to save #FTX.
Alameda was trying to lower its liabilities, much of which are denominated in volatile tokens whose value would have shrunk in the event of a broad market collapse.

Bitcoin ASIC miner prices hovering at lows not seen in years
ASIC miners’ price per terahash has fallen more than 80% from its peak in 2021 as Bitcoin mining machines continue to flood the marketplace.
Bitcoin ASIC miners — machines optimized for the sole purpose of mining Bitcoin — are currently selling at bottom-of-the-barrel prices not seen since 2020 and 2021, in what is being viewed as another sign of a deepened crypto bear market.
According to the latest data from Hashrate Index, the most efficient ASIC miners, those generating at least one terahash per 38 joules of energy, have seen their prices fall 86.82% from May. 7, 2021 peak of $119.25 per terahash down to $15.71 as of Dec. 25.
Miners in these category include Bitmain’s Antminer S19 and MicroBTC’s Whatsminer M30s.
The same statement holds true for the mid-tier machines, with prices now averaging out at $10.23 after falling a massive 89.36% from its peak price of $96.24 on May. 7, 2021.
However, the least efficient machines, ones that require more than 68 Joules per terahash, are now priced at $4.72, a 91% drop from their peak price of $52.85. The last time it was priced near this was around Nov. 5, 2020.
The fall in prices has largely been attributed to large Bitcoin mining companies that have struggled to remain profitable throughout the bear market, with many either filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, taking on debt or selling their BTC holdings and equipment in order to stay afloat.
Among the firms to have done that include Core Scientific, Marathon Digital, Riot Blockchain, Bitfarms and Argo Blockchain.
But the steep price fall has been met with some keen buyers. Among those include many Russian-based mining facilities like BitRiver, which are able to capitalize on relatively low electricity costs, with some up-to-date hardware capable of mining 1 BTC at about $0.07 per kilowatt-hour in the energy-rich nation.
While it’s hard to predict what price direction ASIC miners will head toward next, Nico Smid of Digital Mining Solutions pointed out in a Dec. 21 tweet that ASIC miner prices bottomed at Bitcoin’s last halving cycle in May. 11, 2020 and moved up aggressively shortly after — something which could play out in Bitcoin’s next halving cycle which is expected to take place on April 20, 2024.
