We may seem strange to others—but we feel perfectly natural to ourselves.

Perfection without flaws holds no life.

Our quirks are as essential as our arms and legs. Without them, we wouldn’t be us.

Here’s a powerful psychological hack, illustrated with kids—but it works with adults just as well. If you want your child to do something, don’t ask, “Do you want to do this?” Chances are, they’ll say no, just because they can. Instead of asking, “Want some vegetables?”, give them a choice—within the boundaries you’ve already set. Try: “Do you want broccoli, or would you prefer delicious carrots?”

Suddenly, the child feels in control. They’re making a choice, but you’ve already decided they’re eating veggies either way.

The truth is, this tactic isn’t just for kids. Whenever you need someone to go along with a decision, don’t ask for a yes or no. Offer options—ones that all lead to the outcome you want. You’ll be surprised how much smoother conversations become, and how easily resistance fades.
