That is, it is concerned with maximizing pleasure & minimizing pain.
Your higher self is inspired by meaning & purpose. It has visions, goals and long term plans. It seeks to pursue excellence, self-improvement & creativity.
While the lower self priorities instant gratification, the higher self priorities goal actualization.
While the lower self tempts you back to your vices, the higher self challenges you to adopt positive habits.
The lower self is animalistic, while the higher self is divine, and man is always pulled between these two forces.
Your daily choices will either strengthen your lower self or your higher self. The quality of your life is determined by the ratio in which they influence your actions. At least 80% of your life must be willed to the higher self. This is the bare minimum if you must self-actualize.
And even when you indulg in any pleasures of life - avoid extremities and master moderation. This is the peak of wisdom...
