Parable: "The Knight and the Dragon"

A knight was crossing the desert. His journey had been long. Along the way, he’d lost his horse, his helmet, and his armor. All he had left was his sword. He was hungry, and thirst tormented him. Suddenly, in the distance, he saw a lake. Summoning all his remaining strength, he began walking toward the water.

But right beside the lake sat a three-headed dragon. The knight drew his sword and, with his last ounce of strength, attacked the beast. He fought through the first day, then the second. He severed two of the dragon’s heads. On the third day, the dragon finally collapsed, exhausted. The knight fell beside it, too weak to stand or even lift his sword.

With his final breath, the dragon whispered:
— Knight… what did you even want?
— A drink of water.
— Then why not just drink…

Moral — don’t make life harder than it needs to be.

Sometimes you might feel lost, flawed, strange, or even like you’re failing. But remember: the most beautiful trees grow slowly. The strongest houses take the longest to build. The deepest rivers flow in silence. Don’t rush yourself. Don’t measure your vibrant autumn against someone else’s summer. You’re walking your own path—and that alone is a miracle.

Short-term memory

Have you ever stood up, headed into another room for something you needed, and as soon as you walk in, everything goes blank? You stand there, your eyes wandering, and your mind goes quiet. Don’t panic—this isn’t dementia, it’s just the brain doing its normal job.

Why does this happen?
Our brain treats moving from one room to another as a scene change and wipes out part of the memory drafts. While you’re walking, your attention latches onto random thoughts—and suddenly you’re solving humanity’s problems instead of remembering to grab your charger. Plus, the brain saves energy: it often skips storing tiny, fleeting details.

What can you do about it?
Before you head out, tell yourself aloud: “I’m going to get my phone.” This helps fix the task in your brain. You can even turn it into a small ritual: speak to yourself like a navigator—“Route set. Destination: the fridge.” And you’ll be less likely to stall in the doorway, like in a video game.

Travel can ease stress and low moods.

In an experiment, researchers stressed mice and split them into two groups. One stayed in standard cages; the other moved to larger, enriched spaces with soft bedding, exercise wheels and toys.

After three weeks, mice in enriched spaces showed fewer signs of depression and coped better with challenges. They froze less, were less passive and looked for a way forward. Those in bare cages remained subdued.

The takeaway: stimulating environments can help the brain re-engage and form new connections. A change of scenery may help people too. A trip to the coast—or simply a break from routine—can bring fresh experiences and make old worries feel less consuming.

Travel is more than time away. New surroundings can lift our spirits, encourage the brain to adapt and help us see familiar problems differently.

Respect yourself.

That means not chasing status or trying to impress, and not lying or bragging. Your self-worth shouldn’t depend on your phone, your clothes, or the car you drive. When it doesn’t, people will respect you no matter the circumstances.

Be patient.

Don’t worry about anything. If things seem to be going wrong, wait and see how they unfold. Remember, every chain of events takes its course. If something feels off, the story isn’t over yet.

An unexpected truth:

Focus on your successes and everything that’s going well, rather than dwelling on the opposite. Then watch as more wonderful, positive things begin to fill your life.

“Make the most of life” is bad advice.

Don’t take everything indiscriminately or hold on to things you don’t really need. Learn to tell what matters from what doesn’t, and choose carefully what you want in your life. There’s no room for clutter kept “just in case”—make space for the people, things, and experiences that truly matter.

Take a closer look at the people around you.

In an aquarium, a shark grows to just 30–40 cm. In the ocean, it can reach 4–6 meters.

People are much the same: our surroundings shape us. The right environment can help us grow, while the wrong one can hold us back.

Accept other people’s feelings for what they are

It’s worth remembering something important: you are not responsible for how other people feel. They’re free to have any feelings about you—your personality, responsibilities, appearance, and everything else. What they choose to do with those feelings is up to them. You don’t have to bend over backwards or change who you are or how you act just to make them feel better, more comfortable, or at ease.

If someone holds you responsible for their feelings, bad mood, or distress, they’re manipulating you.

AI did the homework. Who gets the A?

Today, Gallup published a fascinating study: 59% of American teachers have already used AI in their work. Nearly two-thirds say it has given them more time to focus on what matters most: teaching.

That’s good news. Maybe we’ve finally invented a technology that can tackle the endless reports, lesson plans, and spreadsheets teachers fill out instead of spending time with students. But another side of this caught my attention.

Picture an ordinary school a couple of years from now. A teacher asks AI to create a 20-question test. A minute later, it’s ready and handed out to the class.

A student photographs the questions, uploads them to another AI tool, and gets the answers a minute later.

The teacher then feeds the completed tests into AI and asks it to grade them.

The student gets an A, the teacher’s results look great, and the principal has excellent statistics. Parents are happy. The learning process is officially complete.

There’s just one small question left: did anyone actually learn anything?

I’m not against using AI in education. Its potential is enormous. It can explain difficult concepts in different ways, tailor exercises to individual students, provide practice, and offer feedback. The issue is something else.

Learning means doing some of the intellectual work yourself. Sometimes you get it wrong, take your time, fail to understand the first time, and try again. But we’re so used to measuring efficiency by the number of tasks completed and how quickly results arrive that we’re starting to confuse finishing an assignment with gaining knowledge.

In business, automating work usually boosts productivity. Education is more complicated. When someone else solves a problem for a student, the problem gets solved. But the student doesn’t automatically get any smarter.

Perhaps AI’s most important role in education is to free teachers from unnecessary work without freeing students from the need to think.

Fall for someone who truly wants you and is willing to wait for you. Someone who understands your quirks, helps you find your way, and supports you and your hopes. Fall for someone who will still talk things through after an argument, who misses you and wants to be by your side. Just don’t fall for a body, a face, or the idea of being loved.

The Value of the Moment

Waiting is life’s greatest obstacle. Always looking to tomorrow, it ruins today. You try to control what is still in Fortune’s hands, while letting go of what was yours to shape. What are you looking toward? What are you reaching for? The future is unknown—live now!

What matters more: loving someone or being loved?

What matters most is being needed. What’s the point of loving someone who doesn’t need you? And what’s the point of being loved by someone you don’t need? The most important thing between two people is to need each other.
