What we need is simplicity, and a love of it. There is virtue in simplicity and in the frugality that requires and fosters it. In drama production, technical and narrative simplicity allows the subtext to breathe. It allows the drama to actually be “about” something.

Trembling in the middle of a quiet street in the centre of Paris, a Finnish journalist explains that the problem in France is "institutional racism".
I find this incredible. In the middle of an urban war-zone created by rampaging Third World migrants, clearly fearing violence to herself from those very migrants, this woman says the problem is that France is "institutionally racist" against migrants.
Through thick and thin, toeing the party line, and denying the reality she knows, as betrayed by her trembling with terror even while she says the lie.
The Western middle-class has a literally religious commitment to equality.
