NEW ORLEANS, LA – The city that’s known as The Big Easy is currently facing some big problems after the mass exodus of more than 100 law enforcement officers. Now, city officials are scrambling to make up for the drastic loss in officers with a citizen task force. Previously, Law Enforcement Today provided exclusive reporting on the high rate of officers leaving the New Orleans Police Department. An anonymous officer with the department divulged that local officials have attempted to ignore policing issues, causing scores of officers to leave the NOPD: “They want to minimize everything and, kind of, push it under the table and wish that it never resurfaces. The last I heard, we got about a little over 100 officers leaving.” Later, the LET informant stated that the department’s recruitment efforts cannot keep up with the departure of officers. The opinion, which was released this morning, says local elections officials were wrong to suggest that voters could claim the status of "indefinitely confined" based on COVID-19. The majority decision also held that if voters falsely claimed they were indefinitely confined "their ballots would not count."

What are dueling electors?
States with close contests between Republican President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden produce competing slates of electors, one set is certified by the governor and the other by the legislature.

Both sets of electors have met to vote today, Dec. 14. The competing results will be sent to Congress.

Here's what happens with dueling electors (which has happened once before in 1876 between Hyde and Tillman)

The President of the Senate (VP Mike Pence) will decide which electors to count...OR he can throw out both sets of a contested state's electors. If Biden gets less than 270, the 12th amendment is invoked and a contingent election is held with the House voting for President and the Senate for VP.

Each state is then reduced to 1 vote. The Supreme Court may be called upon to interpret the Electoral College Act to break any deadlock.
