๐ Salam Alaikum (yes, thatโs the only Arabic Iโve learned since I came to the UAEโฆ oh wait, I canโt forget the one famous word everyone says: Inshallah ๐)
Iโm usually a pretty private person when it comes to posting about lifestyle. But after so many requests from students about what life at NYU Abu Dhabi is really like, plus questions about scholarships, I thought: why not create a space that answers all that and more? ๐
I also noticed there isnโt much info out there about the experience of being an Ethiopian student abroad (okay, technically NYUAD is just a 4โhour flight โ๏ธโฆ but letโs keep calling it โabroadโ for the vibe ๐ ). So again, why not be among the few to share?
Right now itโs summer, am in Ethiopia, so no fresh campus updates yet. Instead, Iโll share how my first year unfolded, my scholarship journey, and Iโm open to learning from you guys too. So yeahโฆ youโre stuck with me ๐๐ฅ

So, itโs been a while since my last post here, and yeah... Iโm slowly realizing this whole adulting thing is actually real๐ญ๐
First of all, thank you for staying in this channel. I know it might be one of the most boring channels out there, but since you're still here, let me give you a quick update on the last two weeks.
I had the opportunity to participate in a testbed program where @LiloDigitalacademy tested their product with users in real time. Honestly, I used to think testing a software product, website, or application was one of the easiest things to do. Turns out, I was completely wrong.๐ฅฒ
Testing is critical. It helps you understand the userโs perspective in ways you simply can't by building alone.
Besides that, I met some really cool people and spent quality time with friends, which made the experience even better๐ซ
By the way, you should definitely check out @ZollaMG , @life_between_the_palms , and @ruthiesway They're amazing people. ๐ซถ ๐

It feels so sad when you're in the same circle, yet the questions directed at you are different.
During the event, almost every participant asked us about the situation in Tigray and whether we would go back or stay in Addis Ababa. The truth is, Tigray is our home. It's where our families, work, memories, and everything we know are. It's not a simple question to answer because it's about our lives.
I understand that people are curious and ask with good intentions, but sometimes I wish the questions were different. I wish we were asked about our ideas, our work, our goals, or the things we're creating - not always about the circumstances surrounding where we come from. ๐

I'm honestly pretty lazy when it comes to pulling out my phone and capturing moments. ๐ But I always admire the people who do, because they're the ones who get to preserve memories they'll look back on years later.
I think it's the same with software engineering. Taking notes along the way whether it's something you learned, a bug you solved, or a project you worked on is one of the best habits you can build.
Those little notes become incredibly valuable when you're preparing for interviews, applying for opportunities, or simply reflecting on how much you've grown.
