Honestly, though; isn't it a bit fallacious to assume that one OS is better than the other simply because there's more 3rd party stuff for it?

It's a chicken-and-egg problem, and linux is still not fully ready for the desktop simply because of it

And people don't want to switch because of programs that run on windows only, which limits the incentive of porting to linux
