Yeah, what I meant there was that it is a major component of the movement - at least today. Emo kids definitely took wanting to die to a new level, I remember the posts from a vk page from that era which basically mostly all read "you're fucking worthless, why even bother?" - like, at least the memes today are humorous, and provide some comfort in the fact that you're not alone. Those pages, which have thankfully mostly been shut down, probably had been responsible for a lot of deaths.
I don't really like Russia's approach to censorship, but I'm going to say that banning pages like this (and youtube videos, for that matter) is a good thing. You can't really leave something like this to parents; kids will figure out how to access the page anyway

Honestly, you shouldn't feel bad about bringing up a topic that raises an argument between people. You know, I do value arguments; they allow me to stay open-minded about a subject that I am not interested in enough to research, as well as try to convince others if I feel like my point is more (semantically, politically, morally - cross out any if necessary) correct. Honestly, we have almost the same, "reasonable" political views, as per 8values, so I do not think that an argument like this can do something like break a friendship.

Honestly, though, I feel like it depends on what "offending" is; there's limits to which you can honor people's feelings, and succumbing to ridiculous constraints in order to not be labeled "racist"/"sexist"/whatever by removing content that's arguably not even slightly controversial is rather silly.
Now.. I get that apologizing for upsetting someone is pretty important. Especially if it's a person-to-person interaction, even if you personally don't agree with the fact that it was reasonable to be offended by some statement. Just purely out of courtesy. But when talking about brands, ..is it really necessary to cry racism? Vote with your wallet yourself, don't make unsubstantiated claims. Because if it's actually racist, wouldn't other people notice it too, themselves? Because if you cry that it's racist, would that matter to people who are racist themselves?

The problem with these guys I have is that they do have a reasoning, but the reasoning is unreasonable (ha). Like, "microaggressions" or "manspreading" or whatever else they may come up with. If you take a very close look, you can label anything that makes a point racist or sexist. So, at that point - does it matter?

Now.. here's the question. All this time we've had this sort of "euphemism treadmill", where words that were originally euphemisms become more hurtful due to usage in such contexts. I feel like there's a way to water down the "offensiveness" by simply using the word in context that isn't offensive? We are responsible for change in the language, so..
