There was a level3 outage recently: link, and honestly? Hot take: one day, the internet will go down, will take hours to fix, and incur billions of losses, all because some random ass BGP node decides to misbehave.
The internet is built on non-toxic glue and tons of adhesive tape, and the more you look into it, the weaker the entire structure seems. There are efforts to fix it (see: RPKI), but no one is that interested in implementing these security features because it turns out not a lot of people are authorized to configure routers at that level. Nevertheless, these vulnerabilities exist, they are known, and one day we might get someone crazy enough to flip the switch labeled "internet" off
