To determine the efficacy of Curcuma longa extract (CL) for reducing knee symptoms and effusion–synovitis in patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis and knee effusion–synovitis.. ..2 capsules of CL (n = 36) or matched placebo (n = 34) per day for 12 weeks. Measurements: The 2 primary outcomes were changes in knee pain on a visual analogue scale (VAS) and effusion–synovitis volume on magnetic resonance imaging …
#Acupuncture of different treatment frequencies in knee #osteoarthritis: a pilot randomised controlled trial
https://2medical.news/2020/10/27/acupuncture-of-different-treatment-frequencies-in-knee-osteoarthritis-a-pilot-randomised-controlled-trial/

This 16-week randomised controlled trial (8-week treatment followed by 8-week follow-up) evaluated the symptomatic improvement in patients with knee osteoarthritis on 3 sessions per week of acupuncture (TSWA) compared to 1 session per week of acupuncture (OSWA). Sixty participants were randomised to either the TSWA or the OSWA group in a 1:1 ratio. The primary outcome was response rate, defined as the percentage of participants …
The Effect of Flat Flexible Versus Stable Supportive #Shoes on Knee #Osteoarthritis Symptoms
https://2medical.news/2021/01/14/the-effect-of-flat-flexible-versus-stable-supportive-shoes-on-knee-osteoarthritis-symptoms/

Experts recommend that persons with knee osteoarthritis wear stable supportive shoes; however, evidence suggests that flat flexible shoes may be more beneficial.. ..Of 164 participants recruited, 161 (98%) completed 6-month primary outcomes. No evidence was found that flat flexible shoes were superior to stable supportive shoes in primary outcomes. Evidence did show a between-group difference in change in pain favoring stable supportive shoes (mean difference, …
Efficacy and safety of #antidepressants for the treatment of back pain and #osteoarthritis: systematic review and meta-analysis
https://2medical.news/2021/01/24/efficacy-and-safety-of-antidepressants-for-the-treatment-of-back-pain-and-osteoarthritis-systematic-review-and-meta-analysis/

.. 33 trials (5318 participants) were included. Moderate certainty evidence showed that serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) reduced back pain (mean difference −5.30, 95% confidence interval −7.31 to −3.30) at 3-13 weeks and low certainty evidence that SNRIs reduced osteoarthritis pain (−9.72, −12.75 to −6.69) at 3-13 weeks. Very low certainty evidence showed that SNRIs reduced sciatica at two weeks or less (−18.60, −31.87 to −5.33) …
Association between current medication use and progression of radiographic #knee #osteoarthritis: data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative
https://2medical.news/2021/02/02/association-between-current-medication-use-and-progression-of-radiographic-knee-osteoarthritis-data-from-the-osteoarthritis-initiative/

Use of specific medications may accelerate the progression of radiographic knee osteoarthritis (RKOA). Our aim was to examine the effect of medication use on the progression of RKOA. Methods We used longitudinal data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI); an observational study of risk factors for knee OA. At baseline, we selected participants with RKOA (KL grade ≥2) and excluded those with a history of knee-related …
