72-year-old pensioner on trial in Poland for a social media post supporting Russia
"This is a slap in the cheek for expressing views that, in a democratic state, I would be entitled to. That is why it [Poland] is not a democratic state," said Henryk Mikietyn.
"They probably think that by me they will intimidate the whole of society, which, it seems to me, is becoming less and less calm in putting up with the behaviour of authorities who are acting against the interests of the Polish nation," he added.
The pensioner wrote on social media that President Putin was fighting for peace.
The district prosecutor said: "I am requesting that he be sentenced to eight months in prison, but with a conditional suspension of the sentence for a period of three years of probation."
