*INDIA ON ROLL; NIFTY EXTENDS GAIN TO YET ANOTHER RECORD CLOSE*

*Global markets :*
The three major U.S. stock indexes closed lower for a third consecutive session Tuesday ahead of a key inflation reading and a kick-off to third-quarter earnings season. The consumer price index for September is slated to be announced Wednesday morning. Economists expect prices for an array of consumer goods to jump 0.3% in September from the month prior and 5.3% year over year. Moreover, The Federal Open Market Committee on Wednesday is also set to release its minutes from the September meeting. Investors will be digesting the minutes for any potential clues regarding the central bank's plans to pull back easy monetary policy.

Thermal coal futures surged to a record for a second day in China as another key mining region suffered flooding, complicating efforts to boost supply and halt an escalating energy crisis. Oil held above $80 a barrel on expectations that a power crisis from Asia to Europe will lift demand and tighten global balances.

*Domestic markets :*
Markets continue to scale new highs though a case of sector rotation is ongoing. Markets ended a choppy day in the positive territory amid fag-end buying in PSB (3%), FMCG (1.3%), and auto (0.8%) stocks. Titan (up 6%), Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Auto, Divis Labs, SBI, Hindalco, and Hero MotoCorp were the top Nifty gainers. On the flipside, HCL Tech down 3.75%, Tech M, HDFC Life, Coal India, and Ultratech Cement were the top laggards. Market breadth was positive with MidCap and SmallCap indices ending 0.65% & 0.26% higher.

According to IMF, India's economy, which contracted by 7.3% due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is expected to grow by 9.5% in 2021 and 8.5% in 2022, even as it has moderately scaled down its forecast for the world economy during 2021 by 10bps to 5.9% in view of worsening COVID dynamics and supply disruptions.

On the macro data front, CPI rate fell to a 5-month low of 4.35% in September from 5.59% in the previous month as food prices rose at a significantly lower pace of 0.68%, compared with 3.11% over this period. This justified the accommodative stance of the RBI's MPC. Besides, industrial output not only grew at a faster pace at 11.9% in August as compared to 11.5% a month ago. However, this double-digit growth can be attributed to the impact of a low base. Industrial production in volume terms, as measured by the IIP, contracted 7.1% in August last year due to the disruption caused by pandemic.

The Centre has asked thermal power generators to import coal for at least 10% blending, citing shortage of domestic coal supply in a sharp reversal of its earlier directive of using domestic coal. At the same time, it alleged "several" states are selling unallocated power on power exchanges "at high price" and they would be penalised.
