DATA CENTRE STOCKS: WATER-STRESS CONCERNS RISE AS CAPACITY EXPANDS

• India’s data-centre capacity has risen sharply from ~375 MW in 2020 to ~1,575 MW.

• A 100 MW hyperscale data centre could consume ~2 million litres of water per day for cooling, depending on technology.

• Data-centre water consumption was around 150 billion litres in 2024 and is projected to more than double by 2030.

• Water-stress concerns have emerged around data-centre expansion in Thane and Visakhapatnam.

• Government says data centres do not automatically require environmental clearance, though certain large construction projects may require approvals.

• Rising water usage could increase regulatory scrutiny and spending on water-efficient cooling, recycling and reuse.

GODAVARI DRUGS | MICRO-CAP WITH A POTENTIAL CAPACITY INFLECTION

Godavari Drugs, with a market cap of around ₹100 Cr, has released its FY26 Annual Report.

Key Developments
• Preferential issue completed at ₹89/share, raising approximately ₹44.12 Cr from promoters and non-promoters.
• The company has invested around ₹60 Cr in a new manufacturing facility over the last two years.
• This is significant against the existing net block of around ₹30 Cr, effectively creating a major expansion in the fixed-asset base.
• Production from the new facility is expected to commence in FY27.
• The company is exploring CDMO partnership opportunities as a potential growth avenue.

What Makes It Interesting
The upcoming facility could create a meaningful step-up in manufacturing capacity relative to the company’s existing asset base.

The CDMO opportunity is also worth tracking, although the Annual Report does not indicate any specific major breakthrough or confirmed partnership yet.

Key Takeaway
Godavari Drugs is an interesting micro-cap to watch because FY27 could be an important capacity-to-revenue conversion year.

However, the investment thesis is still at an early stage. The key monitorables will be new-facility commissioning, capacity utilisation, revenue ramp-up and any concrete CDMO wins.
