*LATEST AFTER THE BELL: Tapering seen bad for Dalal Street.*
*Nifty (-124, 14906).*
Stocks listed at Dalal Street dropped in today’s trade as the Federal Reserve hinted at possible “tapering” in the minutes from its April meeting. Also blame in part to the weakness to concerns over inflation as the damage was seen touching many a momentum stocks.
The negative takeaway was that Nifty ended below the psychological 15000 mark.
Profit booking was primarily seen in metal and banking stocks. Metal stocks witnessed profit booking after China said that it will strengthen its management of commodity supply and demand to curb "unreasonable" increases in prices and prevent them being passed on to consumers, the country's cabinet said on Wednesday, as it urged coal producers to boost output. Prices for commodities such as coal, steel, iron ore and copper – of which China is the world's biggest user – have surged this year, fuelled by post-lockdown recoveries in demand and easing liquidity globally.
Amongst sectoral indices, the NSE Metal index tanked 3.08% trailed by NSE CPSE index which fell 1.70 while NSE Reality index gained 1.21%.
Meanwhile, the S&P BSE MidCap index ended 0.18% lower while and BSE SmallCap ended 0.10% lower.
*The other key highlights of today’s trade:*
• Nifty slips for 3rd day in a row. Metals drop 3%, Bank Nifty too falls, down 1.04%.
• Around 14 stocks of the Nifty 50 stocks ended the day in green.
• Top Index Gainers: CIPLA (+2.38%) M&M (+2.32%) BPCL (+2.09%)
• Top Index Losers: TATA STEEL (-5.10%) HINDALCO (-4.24%) COAL INDIA (-3.42%)
• Investors seen bracing with two fears: Inflation fears and the virus fears.
*Our view for Friday’s trade:*
Technically speaking, Nifty’s make-or-break supports are placed at 14756 mark. As long as Nifty’s 14756 support holds, the benchmark will aim its all-time-high at 15432 mark and then all bullish bets at magical 16000 mark.
Confirmation of strength above Nifty 15137 mark.
SBI’s results to trickle in tomorrow will dictate the trend of Dalal Street in near term.
Amongst stocks on buy side, we like CIPLA, BPCL and COLPAL with interweek/intermonth perspective.
Stay Tuned.
Disclaimer: Investment/Trading in equities is subject to market risks. Notwithstanding all the efforts to do best research, clients should understand that investing in equities, involves a risk of loss of both.
