Independant Cossack State at 1649 AD (under Bohdan Khmelnytsky control).
Ѕѣнові Богданъ Хмелнiцкiи was a Ukrainian military commander and Hetman of the Zaporozhian Host, which was then under the suzerainty of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. He led an uprising against the Commonwealth and its magnates (1648–1654) that resulted in the creation of an independent Ukrainian Cossack state. In 1654, he concluded the Treaty of Pereyaslav with the Russian Tsar and allied the Cossack Hetmanate with Tsardom of Russia, thus placing central Ukraine under Russian protection.

The Alaska-Canada border.
The actual border (yellow) appears to be a compromise between the Canadian claim (brown) and the American one (blue) [green was the claim of British Columbia]
The UK didn't really care about Canadian intersts and tryed to mollify the USA, so the modern border cuts off all Canadian access in northern British Columbia and the Yukon to the sea
