Modern things of impossible complexity:
1. Apple's M1 Ultra processor has 114 billion transistors.
2. At its most sensitive state, The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) will be able to detect a change in distance between its mirrors 1/10,000th the width of a proton. This is equivalent to measuring the distance to the nearest star (some 4.2 light-years away) to an accuracy smaller than the width of a human hair.
3. The Peacemaker missile's navigation suite featured the most precise and complex self-contained gyro system ever built. It had 19,000 individual parts.
4. It is estimated that it takes at least 100 million people to make a modern smartphone, taking into account the extended supply chain all the way down to the raw materials and the machines needed to mine them.
