THE INTENTION FOR FASTING

Question: "Is one intention sufficient for the (entire) month of Ramadan? Or is the intention made every day?"

Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan (حفظه الله): "It is necessary to make the intention every day before Fajr, since every day is an independent day of worship."

#ReviveaSunnah

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"Take Suhur as there is a blessing in it."

📚: Sahih Bukhari 1923

• Implement this Sunnah even if you feel like eating nothing, have a few sips of water at least as scholars have advised, it is an act of worship seeking closeness to Allah & aids you upon your fast.

Eat a few dates in sha Allah, that's the best suhoor for a believer Alhamdulillah as

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"The best Suhoor for a believer is dates"

PRAYING TARAWEEH WITH THE IMAM

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"Whoever prays qiyaam – i.e. Taraweeh – with the imam until he finishes, it will be recorded as if he spent the whole night in prayer."

📚: Sunan an-Nasa'i 1605 | Sahih

Shaykh Nasiruddin al-Albani (رحمة الله):

"If someone is faced with the choice of praying the first part of the night along with the congregation and praying the last part of the night alone, then praying with the congregation is better. This since it will be recorded for him as having prayed the entire night."

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"If anyone prays at night reciting ten verses, he will not be recorded among the heedless;

If anyone prays at night and recites a hundred verses, he will be recorded among those who are obedient to Allah; and

If anyone prays at night reciting one thousand verses, he will be recorded among those who receive huge rewards."

REPEATING A AYAT OR SURAH

▪️Question: I dont know many surahs as I am still learning. Was wondering for Taraweeh prayers can i repeatly say the same ones?

▪️Answer: There is nothing wrong with repeating the same surah in Taraweeh prayer, or in any other prayer. Indeed, there is nothing wrong with repeating a surah or a verse within the same rak’ah.

Evidence:

Abu Dharr (رضى الله عنه) said:

"The Prophet (ﷺ) stood reciting a verse and repeating it until morning came. That verse was: "If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily, You, only You, are the All‑Mighty, the All‑Wise." (5:118)

📚: Sunan Ibn Majah 1350 | Hasan

Narrated Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (رضى الله عنه) that a man heard another man reciting: "Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad (Say (O Muhammad): He is Allah, (the) One)." (Surah Ikhlaas 112) and repeating it.

The next day he came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and told him about that, and it was as if the man did not think much of that. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, it is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an."

#Iftar

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"Allah is pleased with His servant who eats some food and then praises Him for it (says Alhamdulillah - Praise be to Allah) or who drinks some drink and then praises Him for it (says Alhamdulillah)."

📚: Sahih Muslim 2734 (6932)

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"The one who eats and is grateful (to Allah) is similar in status of the one who fasts and is patient."

📚: Sunan Ibn Majah 1764 | Hasan

🚫 There is no authentic Dua which should be recited before breaking the fast.

THE VIRTUE OF SUHUR

A man from among the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) said: I entered upon the Prophet (ﷺ) when he was having Sahur.

He (ﷺ) said: "It is a blessing that Allah has given to you, so do not neglect it."

📚: Sunan an-Nasa'i 2164 | Sahih

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"You should take Sahur for it is the blessed breakfast/meal."

📚: Sunan an-Nasa'i 2166 | Sahih

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"The difference between our fasting and the fasting of the people of the Book is eating Sahur."

THE DUAA OF A FASTING PERSON

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"There are three whose supplication is not rejected: The fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just leader and the supplication of the oppressed person.

Allah raises it up above the clouds and opens the gates of heaven to it. And the Lord says: ‘By My might, I shall surely answer you/aid you, even if it should be after a while.'"

📚: Jami at-Tirmidhi 3598 | Hasan

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"When the fasting person breaks his fast, his supplication is not turned back."

📚: Sunan Ibn Majah 1753 | Hasan

Imam Nawawi (رحمه الله) said:

"It is mustahabb for the fasting person to offer supplication whilst fasting with regard to what concerns him of the hereafter and of this world, for himself, for those whom he loves, and for the Muslims."

ASK ALLAH WITH HIS GREATEST NAMES

1️⃣ The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) heard a man supplicating and he was saying:

« اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ »

(Allahumma inni as’aluka bi anni ashhadu annaka antallahu, la ilaha illa anta, al-ahadus-samadu, alladhi lam yalid wa lam yulad wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad)

"O Allah, indeed, I ask you by my testifying that You are Allah, there is none worthy of worship except You, The One, As-Samad, The One who does not beget, nor was begotten, and there is none who is like Him."

So he (ﷺ) said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, he has asked Allah by His Greatest Name, the one which if He is called upon by it, He responds, and when He is asked by it, He gives."

ASK ALLAH WITH HIS GREATEST NAMES

2️⃣ A man was standing and praying. When he bowed, prostrated and recited the Tashahhud, he supplicated, and in his supplication he said:

« اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ الْمَنَّانُ بَدِيعُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ يَا ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ يَا حَىُّ يَا قَيُّومُ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ »

(Allahumma inni as'aluka bi-anna lakal-hamda, la ilaha illa antal-mannanu badi'us-samawati wal-ardi, ya dhal-jalali wal-ikrami ya hayyu ya qayyumu inni as'aluka)

"O Allah, indeed I ask You since all praise is due to You, there is none worthy of worship but You, the Bestower, the Creator of the heavens and the Earth, O Possessor of majesty and honor, O Ever-living, O Eternal, I ask of You."

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Do you know what he has supplicated with?"

They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best."

He (ﷺ) said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, he called upon Allah by His greatest name which, if He is called by it, He responds, and if He is asked by it, He gives."

📚: Sunan an-Nasa'i 1301 | Sahih

#ImportantReminders

Narrated from Kaab ibn Ujrah (رضي الله عنه):

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "Come near to the mimbar." And we came near the mimbar.

When He (ﷺ) climbed the first step of the mimbar, He (ﷺ) said "Ameen", When He (ﷺ) ascended the second step, He (ﷺ) said "Ameen", When He (ﷺ) climbed the third step, He (ﷺ) said "Ameen".

When He (ﷺ) came down, We said: "Oh Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we have heard from you today something which we never heard before."

Then Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "When I climbed the first step, the angel Jibreel (عليه السلام) appeared before me and said:

'Destruction to him who found the blessed month of Ramadan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness from Allah.' – upon that I said 'Ameen'.

When I climbed the second step, he said:

'Destruction to him before whom my (Prophet ﷺ) name is taken and then he does not make Dua for Allah’s blessing on me (by saying durood, for example Sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam or reciting the whole durood of namaz).' – I replied 'Ameen'.

When I climbed the third step, he said:

'Destruction unto him in whose lifetime both his parents or either one of them reaches old age, and (through failure to serve them) he is not allowed to enter Jannah." – I said 'Ameen.'"

📚: Hadith mentioned in Sahih Ibn Hibbaan, 3/188; Jami at-Tirmidhi 3545; also narrated by Al-Baihaqi and Al-Haakim 7256; classed as saheeh by Shaykh Al-Albani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1679, graded Sahih by Imam Hakim & graded Sahih by Shaykh Zubair (رحمة الله)
#Quran

Narrated Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه):

"The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to become more generous in Ramadan when Jibril (علیه السلام) met him. Jibril (علیه السلام) used to meet him every night during Ramadan to revise the Qur'an with him. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then used to be more generous than the fast wind [sent (by Allah) with glad tidings (rain), in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds]."

📚: Sahih Bukhari 3554

Ibn Rajab (رحمة الله) said: "That shows that it is Mustahab (recommended) to recite the Qur'an during the night. This is because the worldly burdens and work are halted and the slave of Allah gets (free) time at night. Thus, motivation and willingness are heightened at night time. And that is a time in which the tongue and the heart come together to recite the Quran with understanding."

📚: Lataif al-Ma’arif, pg. 315

NOTE: It does not mean that you should not read in the daytime. It just means that you should also try to read at night in sha Allah.
#Quran

Shaikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمة الله):

"Listening to the Qur’an is the means to obtaining Mercy from Allah."

Ar Raiyān – One Of The Gates Of Paradise Is For People Observing Fasts

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it.
