Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa confirmed the resignation of former Defense Minister Andris Sprūds, saying she demanded his departure over a loss of confidence.
According to Siliņa, the crash of Ukrainian drones in the city of Rēzekne showed that the ministry’s leadership failed to deliver on promises of keeping Latvia’s skies secure.
She added that the drone incident was unacceptable given Latvia’s sharp increase in military spending, which has risen to nearly 5% of GDP.
