Pozhikara
Pozhikkara or Pozhikara is the Western border town of the Paravur municipality in the Kollam district of Kerala state in India. It is located at the South-Western tip of Kollam's coastal area. It is in the Arabian Sea coast. Pozhikara is a heritage site in Kerala.[1] Visitors, including foreign visitors come to Paravur and Pozhikara to see the estuary, backwaters and beaches. As per the 2018 study report by Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute(CMRFRI) of India, Pozhikkara beach is one of the 16 best-kept beaches in India, topper from the state of Kerala. Pozhikara was the administrative headquarters of Paravur before the independence of India. Remnants of old fort, Thaana (police station) and Anchalappees (post office) still remain.

Shenduruny Wildlife Sanctuary

Asurankundu Dam
Asurankund Dam is a check dam located on the Chelakkara River in the Indian state of Kerala. It is located in Mullurkara Panchayat in Thrissur district. The dam at Asurankundu is about 30 km from Thrissur. If one turns right off the Vadakkanchery-Mulloorkara road and follows the forest path for some distance, they will reach the check-post of the forest department. The permission to go further inside and closer to the dam can be obtained here.
Asurankundu is on the northern side of the Peechi-Vazhani wildlife sanctuary.[2] The Asurankundu dam serves the purpose of collecting the water coming out from the forests and hills surrounding it. There are recommendations to include the Asurankundu dam also in the tourism corridor involving the Peechi-Vazhani-Poomala dams. Boat rides and a hanging bridge are being considered.

There is a ‘Sandalwood Regeneration Experimental Plot’ here from where one can learn more on the fragrant tree. The State Forest Department runs a sandalwood depot here where travellers can see the processing of sandalwood. Those who still haven’t got enough to satisfy their curiosity can take a refreshing stroll in the forest, but only after taking permission from the Forest Department.
