What is Sahyog portal?
The SAHYOG portal was “developed to automate the process of sending notices to intermediaries by the Appropriate Government or its agency under IT Act, 2000 to facilitate the removal or disabling of access to any information, data or communication link being used to commit an unlawful act,” the Centre says on the site.

Legal Framework: IT Act, 2000 & Key Provisions

Section 69A – Content Blocking Power
Empowers the government to block access to online information in the interest of sovereignty, security, and public order, or to prevent incitement to an offence.
Requires written orders and procedural safeguards before action is taken.
Upheld by the Supreme Court in Shreya Singhal vs Union of India (2015), which recognized its safeguards against misuse.

Section 79 – Intermediary Liability ("Safe Harbour" Provision):

Grants immunity to digital platforms (intermediaries) from liability for third-party content, provided they act as neutral hosts.

Section 79(3)(b): Intermediaries lose immunity if they fail to remove unlawful content upon government notification.
Shreya Singhal Ruling (2015): The SC clarified that intermediaries must comply with court or government orders based on Article 19(2) restrictions (such as national security, defamation, incitement to violence, etc.).
Myanmar Earthquake:

The 7.7 magnitude earthquake was a shallow earthquake at a depth of 10 km, was the strongest in the world in the last two years.

It occurred on the Sagaing Fault in Myanmar, and its shallow depth means the damage would be more severe.

The quake took place on the Sagaing Fault, which runs north to south through the centre of Myanmar, and is prone to earthquakes.

The USGS said the Myanmar earth-quake took place due to the "strike slip faulting" between the Indian and Eurasian plates, meaning these two plates rubbed sideways against each other.

The Sagain fault marks the tectonic plate boundary between the Indian & Eurasian plate.

India- China's 75 years of bilateral relations:

Marking 75th anniversary of bilateral relations between two countries, Chinese President termed India and China as "ancient civilizations, major developing countries and important members of Global South".

Key Issues in India-China relations:

Unsettled Border: Along the 3,488-kilometer Line of Actual Control (LAC), the lack of mutual agreement between the two countries has led to military clashes.

Geopolitical Rivalry: India sees China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), including China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) passing through disputed Kashmir region, as a strategic encirclement.

Economic Imbalance: India is heavily reliant on Chinese imports, with the country's trade deficit surging to $85.1 billion in FY 2024

China's support to Pakistan: in the form of advanced military technology and economic aid, further complicates India's
security.

Way Forward:

- Early resolution of border disputes through mechanisms like Border-Personnel Meetings, Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC), etc.

- Strengthening economic interdependence with balanced trade and investment opportunities.

-Rebuilding the relations based on a threefold formula of mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest.

On Thursday evening, the Prime Minister will join the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation ( BIMSTEC) leaders from Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar and Bhutan to oversee the signing of the Agreement on Maritime Cooperation.

There is a “high possibility” of a meeting between Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and Modi on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok.
The Lok Sabha passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill post-midnight on Wednesday, following a 12-hour-long debate, with 288 MPs voting in favour and 232 against it.

In an intervention during the debate, Mr. Amit Shah said that a mutawalli or the manager/administrator of a Waqf — a charitable endowment — and the waqif (donor) can only be from the Muslim community.

Non-Muslims have been included in a Waqf Board or Council for administrative purposes and that too to ensure that any donation is being used for the purpose it is meant for, he added.

Katchatheevu, an uninhabited island covering 285 acres in the Palk Bay, is back in the spotlight.

This island, which India ceded to Sri Lanka in 1974, is once again a point of contention just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to visit Colombo.

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has now passed a resolution calling on the Government of India to take steps to retrieve Katchatheevu.

Cabinet Approves "Vibrant Villages Programme-II (VVP-II)" :

This scheme builds upon the foundation laid by the first phase, VVP-I, which targeted border villages along the northern frontier.

This initiative highlights India's commitment to Viksit Bharat@2047, ensuring safe, secure, and self-sufficient land borders.

About Vibrant Village Programme-II (VVP-II):

It is a Central Sector Scheme with 100% Centre funding (unlike VVP-I, which was Centrally Sponsored).

Coverage: Strategic villages along international land borders (ILBs) across 17 states/UTs (excluding northern border blocks covered under VVP-1 (2023-24)).

Objective: Improve living conditions, provide livelihood opportunities, control trans-border crime, and integrate populations as 'eyes and ears' for internal security.

Key Features of VVP-II:

1) Infrastructure Development: Investments in roads, housing, sanitation, drinking water, and SMART classrooms, with all-weather road connectivity under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (MGSY-IV).

2) Value Chain & Livelihood Development: Support for cooperatives, SHGs, and border-specific outreach activities to create sustainable livelihoods.

3)Welfare Scheme Convergence: Implement existing welfare schemes in the identified villages, ensuring full coverage under the convergence model.

4) Cultural & Tourism Promotion: Organizing fairs, festivals, awareness camps, and national day celebrations to boost tourism and promote local heritage.

Why Border Population is a Strategic Asset?

1) Source of Local Knowledge. On environmental conditions & cross-border activities through local networks

2) Informal Surveillance :Nomads and shepherds act as early warning system for border transgressions Eg. Tashi Namgyal during the Kargil war.
