Urban planner Shirish Patel, who designed India's first flyover at Kemp's corner in Mumbai, passed away at the age of 92.
He was also instrumental in construction of one of the largest dams in Maharastra i.e. Koyna Dam.
His father Bhailal Patel was the first Indian Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai.

Retired Supreme Court Judge Madan B Lokur has been appointed as the Chairperson of UN Internal Justice Council.
The General Assembly established the Internal Justice Council (IJC) as part of the new internal justice system in order to help ensure independence, professionalism and accountability in the administration of justice system of the United Nations.
The Internal Justice Council is composed of five members, appointed by the Secretary General.

He was admitted to AIIMS emergency, where he breathed his last.
He served as prime minister from May 22, 2004, to May 26, 2014. His tenure made him the 3rd longest-serving prime minister in Indian history, following Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

KEN-BETWA RIVER LINKING PROJECT:
PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Ken-Betwa river-linking project in Madhya Pradesh’s Khajuraho few days ago.
The project aims to transfer excess water from the Ken River in Madhya Pradesh to the Betwa River. The project includes a 221-km canal with a 2-km tunnel.Both rivers are tributaries of Yamuna.
The project will benefit the Bundelkhand region, which spans 13 districts in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The project aims to address water scarcity in this drought-prone region.
CONCERNS:
The project threatens wildlife in Panna Tiger Reserve, affects Gharials and vultures, and involves deforestation of 98 sq km. Scientists warn of reduced September rainfall and hydrological disruptions. Displacement of 6,628 families raises social concerns.

Uttarakhand to develop plan to study and monitor glacial lakes:
THE UTTARAKHAND State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) is developing a detailed action plan for the comprehensive study and regular monitoring of glacial lakes in the state
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has identified 13 glacial lakes in Uttarakhand-one in Bageshwar, four in Chamoli, six in Pithoragarh, one in Tehri and one in Uttarkashi district
Efforts are underway to develop a fool- proof system for monitoring glacial lakes with various equipment like water level sensors, automatic weather stations, and thermal imaging devices
In the first phase, the depth,
width, drainage paths, and volume of glacial lakes are being studied.Following this efforts will be made to install early warning systems. Instruments will also be deployed to monitor changes in the structure of such lakes.
The NDMA will fund the initiative, 150 crore has been allocated for the study across the country, and Uttarakhand has been given 30 crore for it.
