What is Tennis Hall of Fame?
The International Tennis Hall of Fame, located in Newport, Rhode Island, stands as a revered institution that pays homage to individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport of tennis.
The hall not only celebrates the achievements of outstanding players but also recognizes the broader contributions of various individuals to the tennis community.

Established in 1954 by tennis innovator Jimmy Van Alen, the Hall of Fame has evolved into a prestigious entity that immortalizes the ideals and history of the game.

Why in news?

Paes and Amritraj made India the 28th nation represented in the Hall of Fame.

Leander Paes etched his name in tennis history by becoming the first Asian man to be inducted.

Seventh Schedule:
Union List:
54. Regulation of mines and mineral development to the extent to which such regulation and development under the control of the Union is declared by Parliament by law to be expedient in the public interest

State List:
50. Taxes on mineral rights subject to any limitations imposed by Parliament by law relating to mineral development

Right now 'Royalty' is levied under Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) [MMDR] Act 1957 but this is collected by State Government because the State Govt. is the owner of Minerals lying in their State.

The 9 judge Constitution bench (by split verdict 8-1) ruled that Royalty under section 9 of this act is not a tax.
