My review of Ben Dansby's ShowRunner

tl;dr: Success, you can see the result on my product page, first slide is a video that I recorded using ShowRunner: https://mojavepaint.app/ You can see those slides have a toggle switch between light and dark mode. I was able to record my mouse movements, toggle the theme to dark mode, and re-record the video with the same exact inputs. You can really see it when I'm painting on adjustment layer in the coffee foam, I have some overpainting that I have to correct, and both videos have the same precise thing.
Edit: I forgot to do a Cloudfront invalidation, just did that now, so you might not see the new video for a few minutes.
In order to get here I filed two feature requests along the way that the developer fixed very quickly.
1. He added a "Subtle" corner radius that matches the corners in Golden Gate pretty well and
2. Drag operations have an option for "Motion: As drawn" which is critical for any kind of painting app, you can't just go straight from A to B as a line segment.
I have a couple more easy feature requests though:
1. After you edit a duration, the focus remains in the text box with no way to leave, not even with escape, so then the Space bar fails to work for play/stop (and up/down arrow fail to advance the current step)
2. It would be nice to hook up Home and End keys for those of us with an extended 104-key keyboard (edit: I see home/end scroll the step list. I kind of expected it to move the playhead, but I don't feel that strongly either way)
And now some criticism:
In a content editing app, the content is the star and one should never, ever cover it over with UI, in my strongly-held opinion at least. So like in this screenshot, the step overlay toggle, the re-record toast, the monitor indicator, the Add Frame button and the Zoom button, that stuff should all be off the video and in the UI of the app itself. I can't access some of the steps the way it is. There's plenty of room in the surrounding parts of the app to put these things. Lots of consumer apps do this I know, but pro apps generally wouldn't.

And then just some questions: If I select step 16 here it soft highlights 17 and 18 also, why is that?

Also I notice that when you select a step in the list, it moves the playhead, but if you select a step in the timeline, it moves the playhead without selecting the step. It seems like it should select the step. Of course, for the timelime to be a generally useful way to navigate the steps you'd need to show them all even when they're stacked in time.
I could imagine a UI where duration-having steps get a block with width, and each step illustrates its "pause after" with a right arrow. And perhaps with steps that overlap in time shown stacked vertically, or something.
Oh one more feature request... after exporting I do bring into FCP just to trim the ends a little. A simple start and end trim slider would be pretty handy.
Overall this app works great. I was able to change the duration on an "As drawn" drag operation and it scaled the speed as expected. And in the video you'll notice I changed the menu picker drag to be "Straight line" because that's just selecting a value, the intermediate path doesn't matter.
Looking forward to future updates. I never even used any of the advanced features like Zoom, but I'll be making more videos soon so I'm sure I'll get to play some more.

Any free Mac app that auto-notifies you when a Terminal task finishes?
Is there a free app or some kind of background tool that will automatically ping me every time a long command finishes running in the default macOS Terminal?
Thanks

One click before every Zoom call and nobody sees your 47 desktop files again
Hi r/MacApps. I'm the developer of [TogglePresent](https://www.togglepresent.app/), a small menu bar app I built for myself and then turned into a product.
**The problem:** Every time I shared my screen, the same routine: hide desktop files, turn on Do Not Disturb, mute audio, minimize windows, and swap my wallpaper for something neutral. Then undo all of it afterward. I kept forgetting at least one step, usually notifications.
**What it does:** One click in the menu bar switches your Mac into presentation mode. A second click puts everything back the way it was.
It toggles:
* Desktop icons (hidden)
* Notifications (off)
* Speaker audio (muted)
* Open windows (minimized)
* Wallpaper (switched to a clean one)
**Details:**
* **Price:** $4.99 one-time. No subscription, and all future updates are included.
* **Refunds:** 7-day money-back guarantee
* **Requirements:** macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Works on Apple Silicon and Intel, with multiple displays.
* **Distribution:** Direct DMG download from the official site, not the Mac App Store
I'd love feedback. What else should presentation mode handle? I'm considering \[e.g., hiding the menu bar, closing specific apps, auto-toggling when Zoom starts\].
