OSQuick Update: Sonexis is Open to Contributions

Sonexis is now ready for open-source contributions!

I've added a CONTRIBUTING.md with setup and contribution guidelines, and opened a few starter issues for bugs, improvements, and features that are ready to be worked on.

Bug reports, feature ideas, and pull requests are welcome as well.

If you're interested in macOS audio, Core Audio, DSP, Swift, or UI work, the repo is here:

Kyvenza 3.0 runs Windows 11 ARM now (last month I told this sub it couldn't). $49 one-time

I'm the dev. I posted Kyvenza here about a month ago and said pretty confidently that it couldn't run Windows, because Apple's Virtualization framework won't boot Windows on ARM. That part is still true. I just stopped trying to do it with that framework.

Problem:

The thing people kept asking last time was basically "can I keep one Windows VM next to my Mac test VMs without paying for Parallels every year." So 3.0 has a second engine only for Windows: QEMU on Apple's Hypervisor framework, running as its own process. macOS and Linux guests still use Apple's framework like before. You bring your own Windows 11 ARM64 ISO from Microsoft and your own license, the wizard handles the rest. TPM and Secure Boot are on by default so the installer doesn't complain, and the virtio drivers ship inside the app.

After you run the included guest tools once you get a shared clipboard (you can paste files from the Mac too), a shared drive that shows up as Z:, and you can drag a file onto the window and it lands on the Windows desktop. No GPU acceleration, no audio, NAT only, and snapshots need the VM shut down. It's for running that one Windows tool, not for gaming.

The other new bit is a local MCP server, off by default. Claude Code or anything else that speaks MCP can start and stop VMs, snapshot and restore, run a shell command in a guest, take a screenshot. I mostly use it to let an agent mess around in a throwaway clone instead of on my actual Mac. The create/clone/delete tools stay hidden unless you switch them on. Every endpoint needs a token now, and that isn't just hygiene: QEMU's user networking lets a guest reach the host's localhost, so before 3.0 a running Windows VM could have talked to it. It was off by default and I never advertised it, but that's why there's no tokenless mode.

Comparison:

Parallels is still the better Windows product. 3D acceleration, dynamic resolution, and it's the one Microsoft lists as authorized. If Windows is the main reason you want a VM, get Parallels, or Fusion which is free now. UTM runs the same QEMU underneath, it's free and way more flexible, and it does x86 emulation which I don't. What you get here is one tested Windows config behind a wizard, and macOS, Linux and Windows guests in one app with one-click snapshot and clone. Someone last time said they'd just use VirtualBuddy, and for macOS-only guests honestly that's fair, it's free and it's good.

Pricing:

$49 once. Twelve months of updates, and the app keeps working after that on whatever version you have. Renewing is $19 and optional. 7 day trial on the direct download, no card.

https://kyvenza.com (also on the Mac App Store, same $49 as an in-app purchase)

QEMU is GPL, so the exact source, my patches and the build scripts for every release are at kyvenza.com/open-source.

MetalSharp let's you play Windows Games on MacOS Silicon for Free.

Hello everyone, I am the main developer and designer behind the program MetalSharp, a free developer signed application for MacOS to run Windows Games on MacOS Silicon.

Although I am aware there are many different kinds of launchers currently out there, my mission was always to set myself apart from others and not use Crossover Source or the likeness to get everything working. Everything was built from the ground up, including a custom built Wine 11.17. I have a bachelor's degree in software engineering and have dedicated the last 5 months or so to building this, with AI assistance from codex for things I did not totally understand.

Here are some of the key features of the application I think users would enjoy:

\- Easy to manage graphics pipelines; you can easily switch between different launch methods such as DXMT, VKD3D, D3DMetal, and Mono / FNA. If a game doesn't work at first, choose another pipeline from the dropdown, and try again instantly.

\- Steam Deck-like appearance; Change Hero / Applet artwork, and manage settings per game, such as Xinput/Dinput , Msync, and MetalFX Upscaling.

\- Easy Setup; Install the runtime in one click, and install Windows Steam with the next button. Choose between 20 different languages for an experience native to you.

\- Developer Signed: Feel safe when installing MetalSharp without a gatekeeper warning appearing and easily uninstall everything from settings if it isn't for you. Clear Shader Caches, View crash logs, and Manage Wine Processes easily.

\- GOG / EPIC / Gamejolt support built into the 'Sharp Library' ; Create dedicated prefixes for each service, login, and sync your library to play games from your account.

\- Stream Games via Sunshine / Moonlight to mobile devices

\- Active Development; MetalSharp is updated almost weekly. If you have an issue, I will take lots of time to fix it and ensure it is done correctly. You will feel heard with any problems while using my application.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to look at this! I hope this helps anyone looking to play their windows steam games. The repo is linked here if you would like to check it out!

[OS] Markraft: a free floating Markdown notepad for Mac

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on **Markraft**, a free, open-source Markdown notepad for Mac.

The idea is simple: a note that’s one shortcut away, wherever you’re working. Press **Option+N** to bring it up over your current app, write something down, and press it again to put it away. It stays on top, so you can keep a checklist or some reference notes beside what you’re doing.

Raycast Notes inspired the floating window, and Typora inspired the live Markdown editing. Formatting shows as you type, with Markdown syntax revealed around your cursor when you need to edit it.

Your notes are just .md **files in a folder you choose**. You can use an existing notes folder and open the same files in other editors. Changes made outside Markraft show up in the app too. When saving, it preserves untouched parts of the original file, including their formatting.

A few things it supports:

* **Tables edited cell by cell**, task lists, images, and highlighted code blocks.
* \[\[wiki links\]\] **With completion**, callouts, and footnotes.
* **⌘P to find a note**, ⌘K for actions, and / to insert a block.
* **In-note search** with highlighted matches.
* **Optional Vim mode**, with motions, text objects, visual selection, and search.

**It’s completely free and open source under the MIT license.** No account, subscription, or telemetry. For syncing between Macs, you can put the notes folder in iCloud Drive or another sync service.

It’s still early, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. What do you currently use for quick notes while working, and what would make this more useful for you?
