Pearcleaner - Appcleaner.. alternatives that really works for you?
Are there any alternatives to Pearcleaner and Appcleaner that really works? They haven't been updated in quite a while now...
I've looked at various alternatives, I found some fresh AI alternatives. But I wanted to hear some firsthand opinions from people who are currently using one of them and are satisfied with it.
(And perhaps apps that have been in development for years, so there's a good chance they'll continue to be developed 😅)

What app went from “why would I need that?” to “I’m not going back” for you? and why?
Seeing all the posts about menu bar stuff and Bartender lately got me thinking: how many little improvements we could already be enjoying through apps, instead of waiting years for Apple to get around to them.
I'll start: CleanShot (no affiliation, just a happy user).
I thought macOS screenshots were perfectly fine. Why would I need a whole app for that?
But a few things kept bugging me:
* Switching desktops and losing the screenshot thumbnail before I could use it.
* Trying to drag it into another app, fumbling the window focus or missing the drop, and losing it again.
* Wanting a screenshot from three days ago without digging through folders. I just wanted it handy.
Pretty sure I originally grabbed it for scrolling screenshots, but it's fixing those little annoyances that made me actually keep it around. After using it for a while, I was like, "oh, this is how it should work."
Anyone else have one of these? Something you didn't think you needed until you tried it and just couldn't go back.

Man, f*** Bartender
[](https://www.reddit.com/r/macapps/?f=flair_name%3A%22Review%22)So I've been using Bartender for years now, but at the release of Bartender 6 it went from this awesome must-have to a ragin dumpster fire. The app was a buggy nightmare for the entire release, there was that whole drama with the parent company, and then Bartender started heavily promoting Bartender Pro, a subscription on top of a *paid* app that is shoved in your face at every opportunity... after you *paid* for an app. The only reason I kept using Bartender was because Thaw was still a bit rough around the edges for me, personally.
I updated to macOS 27 Golden Gate and Bartender stopped working completely. Turns out apparently now there's Bartender 7, which is a paid upgrade unless you bought Bartender 6 in 2026. None of this was communicated by email or in any way to me.
I get it, Bartender has always had this system of a discounted upgrade for the next version unless you recently bought the previous version. But I figured with how horrendous 6 was, we might get 7 as a consolation prize, or something? Nope. Now my app doesn't work at all unless I pay them again. Wonderful.
I deleted Bartender off my computer and instead, I'll donate to Thaw, which is free and working fine by the way. I can't say "it's been great, Bartender" because honestly, it hasn't. Garbage app, garbage company, 1/10 would never try again.

Menu bar app
I know there are lot of posts about these, but here we are again.
I started this journey with Bartender. Then it became a PUP.
Switched to Barbee and that was OK.
Then I moved to Thaw a few weeks ago, and it seemed pretty good.
Then I upgraded to Golden Gate at 1:00 PM EDT cause I could not get off of Tahoe fast enough.
Thaw immediately told me it doesn't work and I need to install the alpha. So, I went back to Barbee. Barbee kind of seems OK, but still has some issues.
I realized at that point that I only need one thing. I need to be able to move a bunch of icons onto another little floating bar that pops up when I click a certain area on the menu bar. That's it. I don't care what order the icons show up in. Just icons I always see, and icons I see in a separate bar when I click on an icon.
I don't want anything else. No menu bar transparency. No icon rearranging. No adding or adjusting space between items. No abilities to add items to the menu bar that were never there in the first place.
Does something this simple that works in Golden Gate without issue exist?
