Hey r/macapps — I’m the developer of Waku, an open-source desktop app for running local coding agents in one place.

Waku works with the agent CLIs you already have installed, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Amp, OpenCode, Grok, Pi, and Kimi. It brings your projects, sessions, transcripts, tool activity, diffs, terminal, and checkpoints into one consistent interface.

It’s built in Rust with GPUI, the same GPU-accelerated UI framework used by Zed — so there’s no Electron. Everything stays on your machine, with no Waku account, telemetry, or cloud service between you and your agents.

A few highlights:

\- Queue follow-ups or steer an agent mid-response

\- Switch models, reasoning effort, and access modes

Same Mac app, same price: App Store or developer website?

If the exact same Mac app was available in both places at the same price, where would you prefer to buy it?

A) Mac App Store
B) developer’s website
C) no preference

And if you’d choose the App Store, what would make you equally comfortable buying directly?

Is it mainly trust/security, easier subscription management, updates/reinstalling, payment handling, or just habit?

I’m genuinely curious how Mac users think about this, especially with smaller indie apps.
