Photos App (MacOS) - Move photos library from Intel iMac (Sequoia) to MBP M5 (Tahoe) on external drive

I have Photos App (running internally on a 4TB) on a 2020 iMac running Sequoia 15.7.8.

I want to move my photos library over to a 2026 MBP M5 Pro running Tahoe but the photos library will be on an external drive not the MBP internal drive.

What is the best way to do this? Doesn't the photos library on Sequoia do some sort of conversation when it is placed on Photos App running Tahoe?

Any help is appreciated!

my own markdown editor - native, WYSIWYG, free

Hi everyone,

I made my own markdown editor. It's called wander, native on Mac, also works on iPhone and iPad.

Problem:

Markdown editors make you choose: either a nice editing experience with your notes locked in a database (Apple Notes), or plain files on disk but raw markup and preview panes (Obsidian, iA Writer). I wanted Apple Notes editing feel on top of plain markdown files I fully control. So:

\- WYSIWYG editing: tables, images, checklists are real editable blocks, not preview

\- your notes stay plain markdown files in folders you control, no account, no cloud required

\- mostly compatible with Obsidian vaults (wikilinks, callouts, tags, frontmatter, theme support coming soon)

\- byte-faithful saves: if you keep notes in git, opening and saving a file with no edits produces zero diff. Nobody else does this

\- version history built in: every save is kept locally, timeline per note or whole vault, see what changed, restore or name any version. No git knowledge needed, no server. If your vault is already a git repo, your real commits show in the timeline too

\- also: ⌘K search, backlinks, comments on selected text, Finder tags, a wander terminal command, one-click default app for .md

Comparison:

\- vs Obsidian: native instead of Electron, true WYSIWYG instead of live-preview (no markup flickering as the cursor moves). Opens your existing vault as-is

\- vs Apple Notes: same editing feel, but real files on disk instead of a database, no lock-in

\- vs iA Writer / Typora: tables and images are editable blocks, plus version history and an iPhone app

Pricing:

Completely free. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no account. If paid stuff ever comes it will be optional cloud services, the editor stays free.

Still early. Next up: computational notes (variables, sheets, charts) and optional built-in cloud sync.
