FileMate – simple metadata viewer & editor for macOS

**Problem**

I often need to view and edit file metadata (EXIF, audio tags, etc.). I used to rely on “Any File Info,” but it hasn’t been updated in years and stopped working on Apple Silicon.

macOS “Get Info” is fine for basic info, but it hides most metadata and isn’t great for editing.

**Comparison**

Compared to “Any File Info” and macOS “Get Info”:

* FileMate works on Apple Silicon and is actively maintained
* Shows more detailed metadata (EXIF, audio/video, PDFs)
* Lets you edit common tags and export images without sensitive data (like GPS)

**Pricing**

todoglow update: what shipped in the last two months

https://i.redd.it/niwdtz5w6evg1.gif

Two months ago I shared todoglow here (v1.1). It's at v1.8 now. Short follow-up on what shipped.

Problem
Most todo apps are planners. todoglow is for what happens after planning: take one main task, break it into subtasks, focus on one at a time, and measure how long each one actually took. Subtasks turn over fast in that loop, so every action (add, reorder, start, finish) runs on the keyboard.

Comparison: Things and Todoist organize what needs doing (projects, tags, scheduling). todoglow is what you open once you're actually working: one active todo, a floating focus bar that stays in view, active-time tracking per todo (not wall-clock). It runs alongside a planner rather than replacing one. Keyboard-first, MCP-compatible so Claude Code / Cursor can push todos when they finish a task.

What shipped since

Stats dashboard (⌘U): daily ECG-style pulse, weekly generative glyph that's different every week, monthly ASCII bars, all-time contribution matrix. ← → to switch periods.
Receipt view (⌘Y → ⌘2): open archive, switch to receipt card view. Monthly summary exportable as image.

Focus timer: select a todo, press T for 10 / 25 / 52 min. CRT-style grid fills as time passes, and a macOS notification fires when it's done.
Apple Reminders escape hatch: type rem buy milk tomorrow and it drops into Reminders.
International keyboards (QWERTZ, AZERTY) and launch modes (main / focus bar / hidden).
Bulk paste for multi-line imports. ⇧⌘C copies all todos as a markdown checklist.

Shortcuts shown for QWERTY. Set your layout in Settings (QWERTY, QWERTZ, or AZERTY) to match in-app labels.

Pricing
$9.99 this week with code MACAPPS (reg. $14.99 lifetime). Expires Apr 23.

Searching for an AI Tool

Does anyone have an AI app suggestions. I currently use Kerlig, but I feel its features are too limiting. It's great for small tasks, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for an app that could be triggered with a keyboard shortcut, process questions with context from my computer, and provide answers.

Here is a list of apps I have heard of that may solve this problem for me: Alter, Elephas, Fluent, Enconvo, Highlight AI, Rewrite Bar, Kerlig, Bolt AI, and intellibar.

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with the apps mentioned above, or could offer any new suggestions.

Frustrating Search for Simple Window Management App

I'm trying to find a simple, easy to use, app that will allow me to choose the app I want to arrange, choose the 1st or 2nd monitor, and choose the part of the window (or full screen) that I want the app to open in.

No keyboard shortcuts, no Apple script, just a simple app that, for example, will always open safari on my second monitor in full screen. Why is this so difficult?

I have Moom, Magnet, & BetterSnapTool, but I have been overwhelmed with complicated preference screens of all of them.

1. Do any of you know of an app that presents 3 questions: Which app do you want to work with to assign a screen location? (presents a drop-down apps listing to the user, where you can choose the app)
2. Which Monitor do you want to the app to open in? (presents a dialog box with a large button for each possible monitor, user clicks monitor he/she wants the app to open in)
3. Which part of the screen do you want the app to appear in? (user drags a box, and clicks OK)

If I knew how to write apps, I think I'd try to write one that did those three things, but was simple enough for my grandmother to use. Any suggestions on a windows management app that comes close? Thanks in advance!

Best Mac IDE that is lighter than VS Code but still fully functional?

I’ve been using VS Code on my Mac, but I noticed it’s showing very high 12 hr power / energy usage, and my Mac gets noticeably warm while using it.

I attached a screenshot showing the energy impact.
My main issue is that I want something that feels lighter on battery and thermals, but I do not want to lose important features.

What I’m looking for in an editor/app:

lightweight and better for battery life
good performance on Mac
fully functional for real development work
support for extensions/plugins or built-in features close to VS Code
good for web/dev/general coding workflow

I’m not necessarily looking for the absolute most minimal editor unless it can still handle serious work well.

For those of you who moved away from VS Code on Mac:

what did you switch to?
was it actually better for heat/battery usage?
what do you miss compared to VS Code?

Would love recommendations for the best balance of lightweight + powerful.
