Chairs That Redefined Design: Monobloc 🪑

Born in the 1980s, this one-piece injection-molded polypropylene chair is everywhere—cheap, unbreakable, and brutally efficient. No joints, no frills, just pure function. In many ways, it’s the rebellious offspring of the legendary Thonet Chair, carrying on the mission of accessible, mass-produced seating.

Love it or hate it, the Monobloc remains the most dominant chair on Earth.

We’re starting to introduce you to the brilliant minds featured in Two Chairs!

First up is Elio Franzini, an Italian philosopher and former Rector of the University of Milan 🇮🇹📚

With a deep focus on aesthetics and phenomenology, Franzini studies symbolism, artistic creation, and the philosophy of space and perception. Naturally, we asked him about chairs.

The wait won’t be long—Two Chairs is coming soon, made possible by Avito and Yellow Images

Next in Two Chairs, we welcome Barnaba Fornasetti, a Milanese designer carrying forward the visionary legacy of his father, Piero Fornasetti.

As the artistic director of Fornasetti, the luxury design house founded in 1940, Barnaba continues to transform everyday objects into works of art—creating iconic porcelain, hand-painted furniture, and decorative pieces that blur the line between function and fantasy.

With his eye for whimsy and craftsmanship, we couldn’t help but ask—what story can a chair tell?

The countdown is on—just one week until the premiere of Two Chairs!
We continue introducing the remarkable creators whose stories are about to unfold on the big screen.

Today, we turn the spotlight to the brilliant Niels Gammelgaard, a Danish designer whose partnership with IKEA has shaped the way millions of people experience design at home.
Niels Gammelgaard began collaborating with IKEA in the 1970s, when founder Ingvar Kamprad challenged him to create a new kind of chair—one that would be functional, affordable, and accessible to everyone. Rising to the occasion, Niels delivered the FOLKE chair within two weeks, sparking a decades-long relationship that led to over 50 iconic designs for IKEA, including the beloved TED folding chair and the innovative Moment table. His work is defined by a commitment to simplicity, comfort, and making good design available to the many, not just the few.

Don’t miss your chance to see Niels Gammelgaard’s story on the big screen!

📺 Tickets are available now at the Beat Film Festival website! If you’ve been waiting to watch “Two Chairs” online, you can do so from June 5 to June 15. The film will be available for streaming on Kinopoisk.

We’re excited to share our new animated shorta tender, poetic story about a young autistic bunny named Marco and his devoted mother. 👶🙂

With minimal dialogue and gentle observation, the film invites you into a quiet world where love, patience, and presence create understanding, even when the world is quick to judge.

As Marco explores his surroundings in his own unique way, we witness how true connection often begins where convention ends. This film is a heartfelt tribute to difference, childhood, and the quiet strength of maternal care.

Let’s celebrate and share love and respect for every story and every child.

Dedicated to Marco, a boy with autism

A chair is not just an object. It supports the body, holds it in place, and tells stories — about time, society, and language. It brings together function and meaning, idea and matter, utility and expression. It can be comfortable or awkward, modest or provocative — but it always speaks.

The chair speaks, and soon it will be heard — at the upcoming screening of Two Chairs in Milan during the Felix Festival on November 19.
