Played some board games with my coworkers today. It was something about murder and monks. And I lied my way to the top. Holy hell, I was so beautiful in my deception!
When playing board games I don't usually act very aggressively, after all I would not call myself good at thinking out strategies to deal heavy finishing blows cause I have the memory of a goldfish. But I heavily rely on one of two things: either coalitions and trade (when possible), or deception.

But don't think I am all lies! For example when playing Catan, I offer something akin to investing opportunities to other players where I build things with loaned resources in exchange for a share of my gains for a number of turns, and I always fulfill my obligations. Actually this behavior is against game rules from what I understand, but all the times I played people choose to ignore this.
