Many of you may recall a video that went viral a few months back - of a senior executive in a bank screaming abuse at his teammates and humiliating them in front of their colleagues on a video call.

While the video triggered some of the worst memories of my life as a salaried employee of India Inc., it also reminded me exactly why I decided to stop looking for a job and become a freelancer in 2020.

Toxic bosses who feel threatened by more competent junior colleagues. Daily insecurities. Constant humiliation.

Zero growth opportunities even after a decade of dedicated service.

No respect for experience or integrity.

These were some of the major reasons why I decided enough was enough when, at the height of the Covid lockdown, some of my colleagues and I lost our jobs overnight, apparently because of ‘cost-cutting’, which we later found out was a lie. 

The experience taught me how unstable and insecure even the most apparently secure job could be. And how I was at the mercy of a few people who could decide my fate from a distance without taking my hard work, loyalty, or expertise into account. 

So I decided to be my own boss.

I knew I was good at what I did, and I knew I could do it far better without someone constantly breathing down my neck.

And I launched my career as a freelance writer and consultant. 

Yes, the journey had its ups and downs. When I started out, I wasn’t sure of what kind of work would come my way. There was no assured salary at the end of the month. There were months when I received virtually no work. I had to learn how to manage my money so that one ‘dry’ month didn’t mean I couldn’t put food on the table. 

Nearly three years down the line, I can tell you this: not only am I making more money than I ever made as a salaried employee, but I am working from the peace of my home, I have flexible working hours, I have a steady stream of work that I have chosen to do, and I don’t have to deal with insecure bosses who feel they must put me down in order to raise themselves up.

Today, my only regret is that I waited nearly a decade and a half before deciding to go solo. What a waste. 

Apart from toxic corporate culture, many working professionals are also threatened and worried that they will lose their jobs to AI, or that some youngster who learns how to use AI may render their expertise redundant!

AI cannot take away your job, but if you don’t learn how to use AI, then your job can be done by someone else who learns how to use AI!

Fastest new business launch I ever did - thanks to AI

Let me show you how much easier it has become to launch a business - whether a product or a service, thanks to AI.

I was thinking that I want to launch a new service, through which we can generate more work for our learners.

There is a paid version where I could get more information about this persona, but I was already having enough.

Using this character, I wrote a simple journey story of Pinky, a smart and ambitious startup founder.

I described her pains, problems and experiences in story format.

Once the potential client sees their problem properly described they understand they are in the right place. We know what their issue is. This is half the battle won.

Next we need to describe the solution.

We finish the story highlighting how Pinky benefitted.

My brochure was almost ready.

I just had to write the offer - the service and the price.

Then that was followed by testimonials from past clients.

I then converted the brochure into a website
