If you can already perform any of the above assignments, you may be able to secure some initial projects if you build your track record and do outreach.

However, if you want a high inflow of work and consistent earnings, you might want to consider the roles below.

By volume, there are 3 types of roles that have the maximum demand today from startups across the world in remote mode.

👉 Startup generalist - Startup generalists are smart individuals with diverse skills that are very useful in an early stage startup.

As a startup generalist, your goal is to free up time of the CEO so that he/she can focus on business growth.

While a startup can have many people who work in specialised roles, nobody can substitute for the CEO when it comes to growth.

That is where a startup CEO needs a startup generalist.

Startup generalists need to have multiple skills like content creation, lead generation, operations, management.

The first 5-10 hires of a startup would likely be of generalists.

If you want to work as a startup generalist, you'll need to be able to do a bunch of things such as project management, basic digital marketing, sales, data analysis, and business development. You don’t have to do all of them though. Being able to do 3-4 of these things is quite good to go.

Normally it was a tough job, but with AI, it has become super easy to be a generalist!

Here is how much startup generalists earn in early stage US startups:

👉 Virtual assistant and administrative support - Virtual Assistants and admin support professionals require no specific skill sets beyond English communication, ability to use computers and being diligent to carry out the tasks given to them.

A virtual assistant is like an upgraded secretary/executive assistant in the digital age.

Imagine things that a secretary or executive assistant in the past would do.

Booking travel, managing calendars, sorting & responding to mails, ordering stuff online, coordinating between different people, managing MIS, managing social media accounts, responding to customer support queries - none of these require people to be physically present.

Of course, today, a lot of this gets done through various kinds of apps. But who will run the apps and manage everything? Startup CEOs and busy professionals don’t have so much time.

They need someone to manage all of this.

Hiring people like that in the US or other developed countries is damn expensive. Look how much a virtual assistant in the US earns.

Since people got used to working remotely, they realised that a lot of this work can be done remotely - compared to the US or UK, remote workers in India or other developing countries charge a lot less!

If you want a simple, hasslefree easy job that pays well and is very predictable, then your choice must be virtual assistant and admin work.

While this may sound like a boring job initially, if you realise that you can earn more than a doctor earns in India by doing this work, would you still have a problem❓

👉 Content creation - If you are a more creative person, you may choose to do content creation work.

- Content writer, copywriter, content marketer
- Video producer and editor, instagram and youtube producer
- Infographic creators
- Podcast producer
- Graphic designer etc.

All these jobs are incredible, and you could earn upwards of $2000 per month working remotely.

If you are not earning enough in your current job, you must explore this.

You can even save many hours everyday which are spent travelling❗️

Even if you just work for a few hours everyday, you can still earn about INR 50K to 80K per month by working from home.

This is much more than what domestic employers pay full-time workers.

There is no need to sacrifice your career for personal reasons or to raise a family anymore, after remote work.

How a mother of an 8-year old girl in Kolkata got INR 50K remote job with a UK startup

Munmun Kundu lives in Kolkata with her family and has 12 years’ experience working in a business development role, but lost her job in July 2022 as her employer wrapped up India operations.
 
She could work at the global back office in Chennai, but it was not possible for her to shift as she had her husband and daughter in Kolkata.  
 
She searched for 1 year, and obtained two opportunities in Kolkata, but they were paying very little in comparison to her previous job, and demanded a 6-day commitment to work from the office. 
 
She was losing her confidence.

After all, many women like her are compelled to sacrifice their careers to raise a family.

Munmun tried to pursue some additional courses but did not get any opportunities as training programs in the market are theoretical and do not offer placement assistance.

Unfortunately, knowledge alone does not help in securing opportunities - one has to learn skills, then develop a track record and build outreach.

Munmun hadn’t yet done that.

After 1 year of trying various things, Munmun started pursuing our course in August 2023.

She started building her track record and doing outreach from the first month itself.

She built her Upwork profile with assistance from our team. She identified her niche to be lead generation, email marketing and virtual assistant.

Our team helped her through the process.

Many new freelancers do not add work samples on their Upwork profile, which is a major reason for not securing opportunities.

Munmun prepared some work samples based on her past work experience and assignments from our courses.

Our team pushed her to prepare a short video introduction for her Upwork profile - this really enables foreign clients to trust freelancers from another country more easily.

Then, Munmun started writing proposals.

In one of her course assignments, Munmun was expected to write 5 proposals, and use AI in the process. The prompts were taught in the class.

She sent about 6-7 proposals, and got her first client in the second month itself - this is an AI startup based in the UK which has seed funding.

Although she had applied for the project on Upwork, she also reached the CEO of the company directly on LinkedIn.

Interesting way to follow-up❗️

The CEO was impressed and he recommended his team to offer her an interview.

Munmun attended the interview and cracked the job.

She works as a Virtual Assistant and a Sales Administrator.

Although she was offered a full-time 40 hours/week commitment, she could only commit for more than 20 hrs/week - which her client gladly accepted.

Given the massive cost advantage a client has in working from a resource in India or a developing country, foreign clients do not usually mind such considerations as long as you can deliver value.
