The captain
On my first rewatch for a while and halfway through s4, why did the make a whole thing about the ships captain being untrustworthy when Sayid and Desmond arrive and then he just turns out to be a good guy that actually tries to help?

No spoilers please I've been trying to finish Lost for 20 years! Is it worth it? I'm mid S3...
I'm not even going to scroll this community because much as I want to dive in, I know here be spoilers. But still wanted to post.
I first saw the pilot when I was 16. It hadn't long been out (doxxing my age here!) and our media teacher at A Levels was obsessed, and had us watch it as part of class, which was fun!
In general, I am TERRIBLE at finishing long tv series'. I can probably count on one hand the number I've actually finished. Everytime I've tried to finish Lost, I get so far, and then life gets in the way and I drop it again and then forget where I was, and yeah.
I've picked it up again mid S3. Am just at the point where >!Locke blew up the sub!< (I actually thought I'd got way further ahead than this before but I tried S4 and didn't remember anything, so reversed!) I swear I remembered >!them getting off the island somehow and then one character, Jack maybe, telling everyone they need to go back!< But it all is a muddle.
Point is, I now have a chronic illness (MECFS) that means I have to ration what I do extremely carefully, including how much tv I watch. I can't just sit down and binge for a weekend like i used to, which sucks.
I want to finish Lost... but I've also been warned by other people to not bother, to stop and let it be a forever mystery. That the ending will only disappoint me. To quote "whatever ending you could imagine for the characters would be better than what actually happens!"
Confession time, there's a few characters I find fascinating and am quite invested in the outcome of. Ben is one of them. I know he's a little shit but he's a fascinating little shit and Michael Emerson just smashes every scene he's in. If his ending is a moohaha villain is vanquished/killed/destroyed ending (esp by Hero!Jack) I don't wanna know. That would be such a disappointing waste.
Charlie is another but >!I already know he dies!< . Locke didn't used to be one but now he kinda has been upgraded in empathy for me because I can HIGHLY relate to his personal situation of disability. Funny how that works....
I kinda blow hot and cold with Sayid but I would like a good ending for him. I'd like a good ending for most of them. And man, I'd love to see Hurley happy!
I give less of a shit about Michael and Walt. I don't hate them, but I also kinda don't care either.
I really really hope this doesn't turn out to be some Messiah-esque allegory with Aaron? I have a complicated relationship with religion anyway, but I hope this isn't going that direction. I've always hoped it wasn't a religious allegory and was more earth bound and complex than that, even if there are supernatural elements. I had wondered about Dante's Inferno but since the Others can >! come and go from the island and still presumably are human, I assume that isn't what is going on!< .
I guess I wouldn't entirely hate some religious aspect. I enjoy Good Omens, and Supernatural. But well handled. Not just the cheap religious allegory that is almost as bad as "and it was all a dream".
Rambling now.
So yeah, no spoilers please. But... based on what I've said, should I bother continuing?
Thank you!

Who is your favourite character?
Mine has to be Jack, I know it's a simple answer but he's the one. A very flawed leader, he's a character i relate to a lot and I just love Jack especially after 5 watches of the show. He's my favourite character in any tv show.

LOST rewatch
I watched LOST when it originally came out. I am now 34 and on my 6th rewatch and I can’t believe how different it is each time I watch it. Does anyone else feel like this?
I have hated Michael every time and really really liked his character this time. Same with Locke. I never noticed how much Sawyer loves Kate, not sure how I missed that like. I’ve fallen even more in love with Jin, which I think most people would agree with. The most significant thing was Sawyer’s character. I have always loved Sawyer but wow his character development is just unbelievable how at the start he is just all for himself to how much he cares about everyone in the end, Claire, Hurley, Kate, Jin etc.
I’m only on season 5 so got a bit more to go but so intrigued as to how the rest of this rewatch is going to go.
Please let me know if this has happened for you!

Most rewarding episodes to rewatch
I've been rewatching Lost for the first time since it originally aired, and it's been such a wild and fun ride. Knowing all the ins and outs of the lore adds so much depth to all the episodes. I wanted to make this thread because I just reached Dead is Dead (S05E12) and knowing about Smokey/Locke just makes this episode so incredibly neat to rewatch. It's so well done and it really feels like it was *made* to rewatch. All the interactions with Ben and "Locke", mentioning the monster while zoomed in on Locke's face, his smug little smile the whole time, leading Ben right into the temple basement, disappearing on some pretend errand right before the show starts. There's so much that flew over my head when I watched this on TV way back when. This might be my favorite episode of the rewatch so far.

First time watcher here, currently on season 2 episode 8. I'm so excited to see Rose and Bernard see each other again!
I'm not lurking on this sub so I don't get spoiled but I just wanted to post on here because I have no one to talk about this with lol
PS I started watching Lost because people kept saying to watch Lost after watching From. Boyd is Michael here!

Hurley and hallucinations, by someone with schizoaffective disorder.
For context: I got diagnosed around the same time I started watching Lost, so this might be a bit of projection as a way to cope with diagnosis. Sorry for all the commas, that's just how I type.
While talking to my friend after watching Dave they mentioned him being schizophrenic, but I personally see him as a lot more schizoaffective.
Schizoaffective is a lot like schizophrenia, but it's tied in with a mood disorder. There are two types: depression type or bipolar type. I think he has depression type.
For me specifically, the way my depression ties into my schizoaffective disorder is that when I was at my lowest, I started hallucinating a positive voice in my head so intensely I believed I had DID or OSDD. Basically the same as Hurley but I didn't see anyone.
There's not really a conclusion to this other than I think he's pretty good representation, even if I believe they were probably going for schizophrenia and fumbled it. It's hard finding a character who's schizoaffective, especially a main character who's a good person.
I haven't finished the show so sorry if this gets disproven later somehow. I just really like Hurley.

S2 E5: The Others
Just on a rewatch and was thinking about the Others stepping through the jungle silently as Jin and Eko watch from bushes. Is it not more likely that these are actually Jacob’s followers from The Temple and not Linus & Co.? They wear tattered clothes and one seems to be a child with a teddy bear.

Anatomy of an episode
Always love watching the Bonus Features on the DVDs. I’m on the Season 2 disc, and does anyone else agree they should have picked ANY OTHER EPISODE apart from Fire + Water for the ‘Anatomy of an Episode’ documentary? It’s still a really fun watch, and any episode works as to show how they make an episode from conception all the way to airing, but I reaaaaalllllyyy wish they picked a better episode to document all that stuff for. I mean, it’s by far, in my opinion, the worst episode of Season 2 lol. Still really cool watching all of the behind the scenes for one episode. If they made a documentary like that for every single episode, best know I’d watch that time and time again!!!!!! I love the Lost: On Location segments. Wish they were longer!!!!!
Also, does anyone else find the ‘Lost Connections’ section sooooo weird. The whole design behind it feels like an old PS2 video game. It’s quite cool, really, it feels like a relic from a long time ago. It’s fun to see all the connections as well, but I never bother going through every connection because it would take hours and it’s just stuff I’ve already seen and know about. It’s just such a strange and out-of-place design that I kind of adore it. I’d love to know whose idea it was to design the menu like that.
