We like to test our Ravelights in really tough conditions where a Ravelight would almost never be expected to operate in, just for fun, and also to test what a Ravelight can do when pushed to its absolute limits.

Pictured is a Ravelight operating in the snow on a mountain peak at -18C (-0.4F).

And it did great! It experienced about a 50% reduction in runtime due to the battery being frozen, but has since recovered and is now operating fine. The same Ravelight also went through 4 separate extended freeze thaw cycles, without issue.

While we don’t recommend using a Ravelight as a safety device, it has been useful to us for spotting friends at a distance in the dark in harsh conditions, such as nighttime on a frozen lake or on a mountain peak.
